My friend did the optima yellow top install on his 240sx recently and we did not have to modify the battery tie down at all. The optima was much lighter and thinner, but the height was close enough. I will measure the height of my battery and the height of his optima when he gets home from work and let you know if it will work on the Z.

Plus unless you have the car off you should be running off the alternator so the main battery's concern is cranking amps and life.

Should have no problem with a normal aftermarket system. Once you start getting crazy you might have problems, but that's true of any battery.

At some point, I plan on putting an Odyssey battery in. 15 lbs for $85? What is the stock battery, 45 lbs? Can't hurt to lighten up the front end
http://www.odysseyfactory.com/default.htm

I had one in my M3, never had a problem starting the car, no matter how cold, plus I left an interior light on for a week while I was out of town, quick jump and the battery was good as new.

I actually bought it here:

Here is a good write up on SLA batteries:

Usually you need to modify the brackets. Some drop right in, it depends on the battery and the car.

The yellow top 51R (reverse poles) is the one I'm considering.

Jeff, is that the one you put in your car?

I have the Optima Yellow Top in my Z. It does not just drop in. I had to get my wires extended so the battery would fit correctly.

This battery is awesome for running high end stereo systems.

Wow, your poles are reversed. For the 350Z, you need the SC51RDA and you won't have to mess with the cables as they will go right on. Here's a pic of my car...

You tap your amp lead to the stock fused block? I thought you couldn't do that?
