Default Cosworth piston rings on Wiseco pistons

Might have to replace the piston rings on my 96mm Wiseco pistons… I was wondering if I can use piston rings from Cosworth on my Wiseco pistons?

Thanks for your input!

If you’re wondering why I’m asking… well, I found a set of Cosworth rings for $36 plus shipping.

I guess you could but when it comes to something as important and work intensive as workingonthe guts of your car, I would rather go for rings made by the same company as the piston maker.

Perhaps you should call Wiseco or Cosworth and see what they say as well.

Also, while looking at your mods in your sig list, you shouldn't have even made the thread and should've just used Wiseco rings.

Shouldn't have made a thread to ask a question? What is the point of the forum if you can't ask a question? I have read a ton of the F/I threads and have never read anything about this topic. While I agree, I would probably just go with Wiseco, I don't understand why this question can't be asked, because of his mod list.

I was actually kind of wondering who makes Cosworth rings to begin with as they hardly make any of their own products… I was thinking it very well could’ve been Wiseco or another well know manufacturer… but from some of the research I’ve done so far, looks like Cosworth rings might be supplied by NPR… and NPR supplies Wiseco with piston rings as well… Not 100% confirmed yet.

...because some questions are self-explanatory but just in case you still dont get it, your mod list shows extensive levels of modifications. A few bucks of savings on a different company's rings compared to something going wrong because they aren't made for another company's pistons is a no brainer.

Common sense. Seems to be in dwindling supply nowadays.

You shouldn't have made a thread about this. Your common sense would've told you to get the same company's rings. You didn't even tell us WHY you need to replace them in the first place.

I know...we should just have a bunch of threads like "hey, should I get a JWT pop charger?" or "hey, do these wheels look good on my car?". And I agreed that I would probably just buy the rings from Wiseco. But I have read build sheets, for other platforms, where they list a piston brand and then they will list total seal piston rings or some other brand.

Just because OP has a built engine turbo build, doesn't mean he knows everything about building cars/motors. With the extensive knowledge of some of the posters on this forum, one would assume you could ask a question like this with out someone getting their feelings hurt over it.

But hey, flame on a guy who asks a question that hasn't been beaten to death. That way we can just get a bunch of "hey, which wax should I buy Meguiars's or Mother's?".

Sorry Mike, he is asking to use a different set of rings due to lower cost. If he would've asked because he thought Cosworth rings have greater tension or seat better, then the thread might be valid however, this thread is based on saving a few bones. It is still an unnecessary thread.
