Default LSD Question.

I tried searching and can't really find a straight answer.

I'm trying to buy a LSD for my car and I'm sure if I should get one for open diff or vlsd......

I have a 2008 BASE, does it have OPEN DIFF or VLSD??

You have an open diff. I'd recommend the Quaife. Contact Kyle at Import Parts Pro!

I'd go OS giken. I've been hearing about issues with quaife.

I'm going to regret this but... Please explain "issues?" Quaife is one of the best on the market.

There have been threads regarding fitment issues. My quaife has been bullet proof even after the improper installation by a shop that turned out to suck killed my 4.08 ring & pinion.

I have 20k total and 5k after reinstall of another 4.08 and it is great. Best mod my highly modded car has.

I would get either the tomei I or the quaife. They are both good lsds from what I've heard. This is the first time I have heard of fitment issues with the quaife, but everyone who get that one with the open diff in their ride says its a straight drop in. If you get the tome I, you have to get the additional parts from Nissan or someone who sales OEM parts to get the kit that will actually make it fit into yours. I did the same thing a while back. I hate to say this because I just recently had a bad experience with them not sending me stuff I paid for for 4 months, but contact Z-1 performance (z1 auto.com) or look it up. Adam and the guys can either sell you or give you the part numbers of the stuff you need for the install. My choice however would just be buy the quaife. It going to be the same price in the end and you will have less of a headache looming for additional parts. Hope this helps man.

Default My Quaife install worked great

I have a 2008 base, all of which I think have open diffs, and the Quaife QDF11L fit perfectly. It was a big improvement.

If your shop doesn't have a good selection of shims among their spares, you might need to get a shim pack from Nissan.

Running OS Giken here. Very smooth yet very responsive. . It's at 100% lockup but you hear no clunks at all (on OS Giken Oil).

I've tracked a Z on Quaife as well. It works just as good.

+1 on the Quaife. Got one on my '08 Z and my '92 Alfa Spider. Best diff I've ever used. Plus, no break-in, no special oil, and they don't wear out.

I think they are called stub axles. Bottom line, you have a open diff if you got a base and if they ask you if you need one for a car with a VLSD or one for a open diff, then you need to pick the option to replace the open diff.

I was looking into to a quaife myself, until talking to a local highly rated Z shop here about how they've had a few of the ones they've installed come back with issues. Who knows if it was improper install or what. I've also read a few places where they will not cover their units under warranty in North America. I do not have a valid source on that though. Just came up in a few forums. I've also read a few threads of guys swapping out to a clutch type down the road.

But I guess you're looking for this response from me. "Yo, thAt be not so mad tites for drifts! Just go welded brah!"

Wavetrac is the only way to go for an LSD IMO.

Well I wouldn't say the only way to go... But I'd probably go for the Wavetrac (if I was in the market for a Torsen style diff) had I known about Quaife not supporting units used in the USA. But torsen style diffs are usually bulletproof...

There are still a lot of solid lsd's out there i.e. nismo, cusco, & os giken.
