Post Monitor Engine Parameters

For those of you interested in data loggers for stuff like Throttle position, O2 sensor, Fuel trim, engine codes, load, etc. check this out.

Pocket logger website

BTW After I read a post about the possibility that the throttle doesn't open all the way on the 350Z, I was reminded of something a dyno operator told me. He said that a simple , but little known, performance mod for the 300ZX was to adjust the throttle linkage to allow it to open fully-which it apparently didn't do from the factory. Don't know if its true but food for thought.

Since the 350 has an electronic throttle, that's not going to work on our cars, but if you get your ECU flashed, they can fix that in a heartbeat, or so I'm told. I'll know tomorrow night after mine's done at Fisher Speed

pocketlogger is not adequate for teh 350Z....v e r y s l o w r e s u l t s

but Mike builds a great product for the DSM's and other cars, jsut too slow on some cars like the Nissans and Subaru's.

I'm currently designing a real engine datalogger to log a wide variety of engine parameters to an RS232 data stream. It doesn't use OBD-II.. it uses its own set of sensors to read

EGT x 2, IAT, TPS, Oil Temp, Coolant/Water Temp, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Boost, RPM, Speed, etc, etc.

I'm currently in the design phase. When it's done, it should be able to log all those parameters and more between 50 and 100 times per second to a laptop, which can then display/analyze the data, or export to Excel or whatever. Eventually I'm hoping to link the engine data to a GPS data stream, so you can read engine parameters as they relate to your position on a road course.

If there is sufficient interest, I might market the datalogger and associated software when I'm done.

This may be a dumb question, but I just wanted make sure I read you correctly ...
This means we'll have to installed the additional sensors for 'EGT x 2, IAT, TPS, Oil Temp, Coolant/Water Temp, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Boost, RPM, Speed, etc, etc.' ???

yup. pain in the ***, but it makes the install very general (works across brands/models) and also eliminates the possibility of loading down the stock sensor
