Thinking about doing qtp cut outs
so im considering getting qtp cutouts for the z and i have a few questions for people that have experience with them. do they sound good on the z? if so where should i put them on the exhaust? should i go for the low profile ones even if i dont plan on lowering it? and what size is the oem exhaust? heres the link if you guys want to check them out: http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/OVAL/

im not sure about cutouts but ive heard an open exhaust on a z and it was annoyingly loud at cruising speed. good thing about cutouts is you can cap them off when not needed. but i havent seen the research on whether there is any performance benefit to an open type exhaust on an NA 350.

its mainly just for ***** and gigs and any hp gains would just be an added bonus, my main concern is if the cut outs will leak at all and if it will actually sound decent.

Waste of time and will sound awful. In addition,I'd think you would get CEL
messages real quick.Unless your engine is set up for a open exhaust flow
you will actually lose power with cut outs.50's&60's pre-computer managed
cars welded on "lakes pipes".Same priciple but you had to remove the cap
manually. If you are looking for a system that you can control the sound
of your exhaust, there are remote controlled exhaust valve systems
available.I've seen/heard one on a 370.Its made by Cobra.Pretty
sharp setup. However,in the open position, sounds like my S-Tune
exhaust with HFC'S.

I like the idea of an electric cut out and I'm considering it myself too. In my case it's not about performance at all, just about the ability to have a quiet exhaust during normal day-to-day driving and to have an (extra) loud exhaust occasionally when you want to.
I'd put it either before or after the resonator. If you put it before, its the same as a cat back straight pipe, I guess, and if you put it after, it should be 'the same' as the rear muffler delete mod. At least the sound should be similar, right?
I doubt you would get a CEL... well, it depends where you put it, probably..

i guess im at a loss as to why you would want an extra loud exhaust just because. i would never want a loud exhaust but only put up with one for performance sake. i see the hondas with super loud exhaust driving 5mph through a parking lot and shake my head. if you are going to be loud at least be going fast. it's like you want to have an option whether to be obnoxious or not. to each their own i guess. good luck

Well from my experiences with Exhausts, which I have had quite a few. (Muffler delete, resonator delete, Unbolted exhaust from the Y pipe, and unbolted from the cats.) plus more Aftermarket cat backs as well as custom ones I have made myself. You need to decide if you want obnoxiously loud(putting the cut-out b4 the resonator after the Y-pipe) that makes everything in your car rattle, or if you want a decent tone (after the Resonator/before the muffler) coming from the cutout. Gains are minimal if any... My butt dyno says you gain very few hp with the Obnoxious choice, barely/if anything on the post resonator but sounds decent... you never know. I had thought about doing this myself at one point, because at the time I was very indecisive on what I wanted...
I have to agree with vas_Z33 on the QTP products. There are better ones out there. keep searching and see if you could possibly find some better ones.
As for the size of the exhaust, I know its on here somewhere, I can't recall it exactly, so I would search on here for the answer to that one.
hope this helps.

Take it from me I've done it. Do not put it before or in place of resonator. Too loud, doesn't sound great and ratlles/vibrates the cab. If I did it again I'd do after the resonator or just do a muffler delete. Sounds way better, no rattle.

It's OK Trav, it's oooooookay.... now go take your meds like a good boy.
But now that the thread is re-opened...gotta say that uncorked exhaust *at least on the street* sounds like a$$ after a large bowl of frijoles. Ugh.
Some guy in a jerked up Z blasted by us yesterday with clearly no muffling to speak of. My WIFE says.... "Oh good gawd, that car sounds like A$$!" Hahahahaha..... That's usually my cue to say something but she beat me to it.

Not to mention most people who do this always report of the servos going out over time. I know tons of people who have exhaust switches but they never last and either stop working or break. I assume due to the constant heat cycles. That's a lot of stress for a electronic part to handle.

I purchased a 3'' QTP cutout which I want to install on my turbo 350z, stock exhaust. I read the cutout may be too loud before the resonator.. Where do you guys recommend I install it? I want to be as quiet as possible. Currently running at 7psi. I do plan on retuning to 15psi.
I just thought the 2''1/4 piping was restrictive. Will the cutout eliminate the need for getting bigger piping and muffler?
Any suggestions is appreciated.. Thanks!
