how to fail oil consumption test?

Default how to fail oil consumption test?

Did a quick forum search
Did a Google search
Flipped thru a couple pages in the TSB t
Pick her up after work and begin testing next week

How do I ensure I fail? Someone in the TSB thread mentioned making the PCV valve open a bunch.
So would that be cruising on highway for a majority of the 1000 miles so the valve is at a steady flow of air?

Or quick bursts of acceleration so the valve opens and closes a bunch?

Why do you need to "ensure it will fail" ? Either your engine has the problem or it doesn't. if it doesn't, why would you want to make it appear that it does? Tell me what I am missing here?

It has the problem.
I want to be certain to fail.
Don't want to barely pass or something.
I would like to fail as horribly as possible.

Me want new engine no burney oil.

Dont be surprised if the new one does the same especially if they only do a short block

Drive around in 1st or 2nd gear. Deceleration creates the most vacuum and you WILL consume more oil. Be warned, you will consume more normal.

I have read exactly what people have been posting.
1: decelerate to cause massive vacuum.
2. "somehow" manage to make pcv to stay open during operations.

Though I dont know what nissan might do if they see the PCV is "damaged" and causing you to eat oil. They may call that a maintenance issue and not swap.

Could happen but;

Op hasn't really revealed any information about himself or the car. Hasn't revealed which dealer he is planning on visiting. Honestly the Shop manager probably wont be checking forums to see if anyone has posted a thread on how to get a free motor. Privacy is out the window, and if anyone really wanted to find out who Op is/ and what he drives one could take the time and get sauce, but I hardly doubt this will occur. I say chances of success are about 90%.

In a semi-related question, in order to take advantage of this "oil consumption" issue, does the car have to be within warranty, or is this like a factory recall thing? because....mine consumes a bit of oil too

Mine would use a quart every 1500 miles without any exhaust smoke, I just accepted that fact. Now if I were leaving a blue exhaust trail I'd have to make a gripe.

^ they put a "seal" on the drain plug.

Nissan "blew" the tests 3x until I was outside warranty on my SECOND motor.

If I had it to do over I'd have gotten one of those pumps they make to vacuum the oil out of the dipstick to make it so low even they had to replace it.

I normally would say cheating is bad but Nissan created a motor they had to know was going to have issues and then replace it with one they KNEW 100% had a good chance of having issues.

I wouldnt do anything to cheat the test like drain oil or something
But if driving the car a certain way produces a certain effect, then I think that's fine

We should be able to drive these cars without having to put in a quart every few tanks of gas

I think you missed my point. If you get a new motor, it will be the same as the old and have a good chance of failing. Nissan gives a 12/12 warranty on the replacements. They know the issue occurs at about 16k. Mine first started having issues at about 13 months/14k miles. It took until 18/18 to get a test completed and they told me to f00k off.


I know of no properly built major manufacturer motor that is eating 2 quarts per 1k miles just after break in.

Nissan is cheating, I say f00k cheaters and even the playing field.

Oh damn I did miss what you were saying.

That's fuked
I think this whole experience will lead to me never buying Nissan again
Especially after hearing owners of other models than the Z have OC issues

I got as high at Nissan USA as is possible and expressed if they held to their your replacement motor that is also consuming oil after under 20k is your problem have a nice day attitude I'd never buy Nissan again and I'd tell anyone that would listen not to buy Nissan.

They said have at it.

I know of 7 people that would have bought a Nissan had they not spoken to me that did not. I know that won't put them out of business but it makes me happy.
