Default ati procharger installed and tuned....slow :(

well I wanted a little more speed from my daily driver and since I already have a turbo car I wanted to try my hand at a supercharger since ive never had one. I read a few reviews and seen some people put down 400hp with these kits but I didn't want to be at 400hp since that's pretty much the point our engine start to break. I installed the kit and because I have momentum headers, berkt test pipes and xyz Y pipe it brought down the boost to about 5-6psi so with that low psi I made 330whp on a conservative tune. I told the guy I want reliability over power so that what he gave me gonna put the 8psi pulley on tomorrow and retune to see what that does that should put me around 6-7psi...still though don't like how the car feels that I have to be at red line to get power out of it.....its insane and after reading all the forums and doing tons of research these engine are so fragile and blow up nothing......I might take the kit off and sell it anyways just wanted to share my experience with this supercharger kit

have you double checked all your connections?

what are you tuning with?

Our engines hold up fine and aren't "fragile" per say. Crank it up to 8psi, maybe add some water/meth injection for some peace of mind, and get a better tune. Did that kit come with fuel mods or are you on completely stock fuel?

I bought the injectors, fuel pump and up rev.... Kit came with aeromotive tuning thing with external fuel pump ...Can't wait to retune even though I'm pretty confident I'm gonna take kit off and go twins if I can find a good price on a used kit..... Just not a fan of the supercharger how I have to rev so I high to feel boost. I'm used to turbo 3-4k full boost

I would go with the 8psi setup. When I had my blower I was creating boost at 1500rpm…I don't know much about the uprev and the procharger, I used the entire ati kit and was very happy…when you start dicing things apart you open yourself up to issues…but plenty of people have been here before, so don't give up.

Hmm heard a lot of people blow motors on fi on these forums if all motor it's good but if its boosted then from what I've read they are fragile and tend to blow..... I have the ati fuel management system and didn't go with it because you can't adjust timing

If i'm not mistaken, the ATI Procharger and Vortechs' style of supercharger brings the power later in the power band. The Stillen supercharger (roots style blower) brings decent power on the lower end of the power band.
As mentioned above, check your tune. A good tune from a reputable shop with under 400whp will be reliable on our engines. Good luck!

poor tuning, poor builders, and na cant make enough power to where the rods bend which is around the 450 hp mark on de's 400 is done all the time with no issues you have not researched well enough

Ok so we took the bumper off to see if we could find the problem and I believe we found it......the catch can that goes on the intercooler piping that has a filter in it is very restrictive there's like 2mm of space going between the can and the filter on the inside.......the k&n air filter isn't the one with a mesh on the top for better flowing its the one that its all rubber so no air was getting through we took that off and it made a huge difference........tomorrow Im going back to zfever to see if that was the problem and also I'm going with a pulley to take it to 8 psi to see if that was the problem

You're right I guess they aren't as fragile as I thought

Cool. One thing I might suggest before dumping the S/C is getting 4.08 gears. I just got mine in, and even N/A there's a noticeable bump. Superchargers like shorter gears since you build boost by RPM. It would really wake your car up and you might not want to go turbo anymore. The one downside is if you still don't like it, kind of a big hassle to swap gears again for turbo, since you *don't* want short gears for turbo. Just something to think about, though.
