350z awd build!
so recently i was working at my buddys shop when i noticed an engine/drivetrain sitting in the corner. after looking at it for a second i thought the motor looked shockingly similar to a VQ. i asked him what it was and much to my dismay he informed me that it was the complete drivetrain from a g35x. well of course i went from 6 to midnight right on the spot. he told me i was more than welcome to the parts for virtually nothing. SO!! TO THE POINT!
I have been doing some research and have come up with an amazingly small amount of information. does anyone have any previous experience with the g35x or any sort of similar swap? not many people doing this kind of swap. what necessary parts/fabrication would theoretically be involved? I am already running FI 450ish to the wheels so the additional weight would not be too big of an issue. ANY ADVICE/KNOWLEDGE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

you wouldnt happen to know if the "transfer case" is compatible with manual transmissions would you? or would i have to swap over to an automatic? that would definitely ruin my perspective on things.

my favorite example is the jun version, but that was race car... alot different then the function version... but your looking at crossmember, transfer case, only the front diff/oil pan as for motor, trans setup im a little rusty on, and for wiring/ecu, im thinking you can bypass all sensors/switches in the transfer case and go for a more classic awd setting.
neat for sure... but i hope you have your fabrication pants on
edit: has to use auto trans from g35x, unless you use a gtr trans with adapter plate

If you want manual I'm pretty positive you'll need a tranny from a r32-4 GTR.
And yes, you're right there really is too little info out there.
If I had the parts on hand I probably would have attempted to add it to my build. I don't think my turbo setup would work with an awd conversion though.

My wife's Infiniti ex35 is an AWD. And it has the HR engine in it.
Side by side they look identical, it wouldn't shock me if it was built on the 350 frame.

If you get the auto transmission built to handle the 400hp then I would assume the next thing to go would be the transfer case as those are designed for less than 300hp.

Notice I said EX. Not FX.
The EX isn't a full size SUV. It's basically a wagon.

According to edmunds, it is based off the g35 platform and the wheelbase isn't even 2" longer.

Yeah it is. I was trying to say you were right and I was wrong. My communication skills suck. Just ask my wife.

I am very close to offering a kit which retains ALL factory electronic functions and appears stock from inside and underneath and would only take a long weekend to install.

Just PM qikz for the first hand report. The R&D Journey has been expensive but VERY interesting. Its presents as a factory Z38X TT (I call it) and is thrilling to drive.
