Default 03 LSD question

Hello everyone.

I’ve had my z for a couple of years now, it’s a vortech charged 03 with oem lsd.

I have used the car for drifting competitions and car work excellent but I can’t seem to get the car to lock the diff in 1st gear.

Regardless of the rpm low or high, or how hard I clutch kick it or even I can’t even get the car to do a sliding u turn. If I do it in 2nd gear works like a charm.

Could it be that the diff is already wearing out? Or it’s a normal behavior on these kind of lsds?

Thanks for any inputs

Normal lock on a VLSD is 30% , and goes down quickly after being overheated a few times. It is great for driving to Walmart, nothing else. Buy a real diff, OS is great, if it is a dedicated drift car i would look into a 2 way.

I've been road racing and developing my G35 for the last nine years. I've learned a lot about what happens to which stock parts when they are pushed to failure.
The stock LSD was never meant to be in competition. There are many good choices for replacement, but some are best chosen for specific needs. There's a very large thread on this forum on this exact topic that goes back to '07 and covers everything needed to make your decision.
