Default ***Aftermarket LSD Reviews***

After using the search button to find my answers and seeing numerous reviews in separate threads, i figure it would be a good idea to put all our reviews on Aftermarket LSD's in one thread. I'll start.

Type of LSD: KAAZ 2-way 100% lock-up

Can i Change the Lock-up rate?: Kaaz=not to my knowledge

Type of Driving you Do: Daily Driving and once a month Drift event.

Type of conditions you live in: Rain about 8 months of the year, dry for a few months. WA.

LSD Loudness: 10/10 loud, if you are getting it just for upgrading to put more power down to the pavement, maybe Quiafe (sp?) is for you. In the parking lot and driving in slow turns, it is loud. It is a pop, pop, type sound. If you drive for longperiods, more than 30 mins. i noticed it gets louder. You can put a modifier in it to lessen the noise, but it WILL still be there, not just as noisey. Maybe 7/10.

Overall Impression: I like the KAAZ 2-way and have driven it around for about 3 years, in the dry weather i can accelerate and not think twice about sliding into a ditch, it's predictable definetly good LSD for Drifting will lock up every time no prob. In the rain or damp conditions, YOU WILL have to drive slower than regular cars, be cautious and baby your shifting. The noise is there but for what i like to do it is worth it. The noise lets me know that it is working. However i might be switching over to maybe a less aggressive LSD like Cusco maybe since i have cut down on Drift events and you can adjust it down to 60% lock-up.

Recommend to Others?: If you plan on drifting a lot this is the way to go, Great Lsd, Locks up everytime. For Daily driving with spirited weekends i would probably suggest you look elsewhere.

Damn dude ive been on the net for a couple hours deciding which lsd to save for. Im thinking the tomei 2way but all i hear is the samething u just posted. Im currently trying to figure out if the differences between the cusco MZ and the cusco RS are significant. Anyone got a review for either?

and the MZ is not stocked in the US (so long wait time) and the RS is

Chaning the lockup % on any of the diffs requires removal of the diff from the pumpkin and restacking the disk plates - various orders gives you various lockup.

Type of LSD: Quaife ATB

Can i Change the Lock-up rate?: No

Type of Driving you Do: Daily Driving

Type of conditions you live in: Chicago--rain, sleet, snow, and sun

LSD Loudness: 1/10. I hardly every hear anything coming from the diff.

Overall Impression: Great Upgrade to those wanting an aftermarket LSD without the associated noise and maintenance that accompanies clutch pack diff's. Only downsides is the price which is a bit high, and if you have a stock vlsd, you have to get axel stubs from an open diff.

Recommend to Others?: Yes! Requires no maintenance, other than the occasional diff fluid change (I use Slykolene and change it out once a year). Also Quaife offers a lifetime warranty for street use and racing!

Here is mine

Cusco RS, set at 1.5 way, 60% lock. Been in the car since spring 2004

Type of Driving - early in it's life, a good mix of track and street. For past 2.5 years, just street

Conditions - living in NY, we get it all!

Loudness - no more intrusive than stock (synthetic fluid is the key here!). Ever so slightly grabby at a crawling pace in a parking lot, perfectly smooth at every other point

Overall Impression - I'll keep it bried since I've posted about the diff many many times. I have alot of work done to my car. Without question, this is absolutely my most favorite performance oriented mod. It completely changed the dynamics and performance of the car in a positive way. I liked it so much, that I am doing another Cusco RS diff with the new rear I am building

Recommend to others - absolutely without question

Type OF LSD: Carbonetics ATS Carbon

Change Lock up Rate: No (but at 100% lock all the time, why would you want to?)

Type of Driving: NC, good weather street driving, some rain, no snow, drag occasionally, want to start HPDE.

LSD Loudness: 1-2/10. If you use standard fluid (75W90), you can hear pops faintly driving slowly, but with Motul 90PA, it is silent.

Overall Impression: Great diff but fluid changes every 1800 miles is ridiculous. Some let it go longer, but the carbon material eats up the gearset, resulting in whine. Anything more than 2k miles and you WILL have metal shavings in the fluid. I should've picked the Quaife but couldn't get my hands on one that would fit in my pumpkin. I have a 5AT with the 3.3FD with VLSD, and I had to get the 3.5 gears to work with the ATS.

Recommend to others: For more track use, yes or if getting under the car is something you enjoy doing on the weekends. Otherwise get the maintenance free Quaife (whose only disadvantage is that if a wheel leaves the ground, the other wheel won't spin)

what would be best for a DD? I have a base model. I was going to pick up a Quaife but due to some production issues I ended up backing out.

Quaife^

there are no production issues, never have been. There were distribution issues as Quaife UK was in process earlier this year of dropping their previous US distributor and selecting a new one.

The Quaife is the best all around LSD for a daily driven base model

Here's what i got from the dude at OS GIKEN its not much but its a start

"Dear Joseph,

Our OS Giken Super Lock LSDs do not make any noticeable

differential chatter in their off the self (Spec-S, 1.5way) settings.

Our Spec-X 2way setting units are available by special order or

available as an after-service through select dealers, who for a fee

can tune your OS Giken Super Lock LSD for particular type of

race. Spec-X type units that have been tuned with a high amount

of initial torque will produce significant amount of noise and differential

chatter.

Unless you intend to use your car for professional drift, we recommend

that you use the Spec-S, as it is a true all-rounder.

Oil Seals and side bearing should be readily available through your

Nissan Dealer or authorized technical shop.

Thank you for your e-mail and interest

in OS Giken Products.

Our LSDs come standard in 1.5 way for FR vehicles and

1.1 way for FF vehicles. 2 way versions are available only

at

special request.

For the 2005 Nissan 350Z with an open differential,

it will be a direct swap. Please be sure to take the

opportunity to use new oil seals and bearings.

If you would like help finding a authorized dealer or

qualified installer, please feel free to respond to me

for further assistance.

Best Regards,

Sean Fenstermacher
