Pop went the vq... What to do ?
So after finally finishing the suspension on my car I blew the motor up.... Heart break ... But what should I do next save and buy a built short block or sell my turbo kit, and what ever stuff for the vq and go ls swap. Or RB swap ? Not sure where to go from here ...

read all the swap threads. If you do'nt have 30k$ laying around or own a full machine shop to customize everything then you will be in for a ride. The only ones living still have either paid a lot of money or own a shop and can fix the problems with all this "easy swap" kits.
Building the engine is going to be cheaper and less headache since you can order one built and do the assembly on your own along with installation.
Both are expensive. If you were happy with your 400hp then I would buy a low mileage stock engine and just toss it in.

Possibly go w another low milage vq. Or build yours if doable. Keep boost low. All depends w funds you have etc. I've been debating what the plan B step is if it were to happen to me. I've recently lowered boost to 5.5. GL w it all and I'm in to see the what you decide.

Very true. I made everything myself and my LS swap was all of $30K, although I was a bit over the top on it. Swapping is not that hard but it takes a lot of money, skills and connections to do it properly.

since you already put money in the car for suspension and a turbo kit etc, the best financial decision (at this point) would be to get a built short-block and retune. Since you have the mod bug I wouldn't do anything weird like swap in a junkyard block and revert to NA b/c then couple years later you'll probably want to turbo it again.

Wouldn't that be the opposite of weird? That's as vanilla as you can get if you want to save money...

i dont think building a VQ again is a good idea, most F/I VQ Builds end up with problems and car owners sell their car. if am were u i would swap it with 2jz or RB. coz these engines were made for turbo.

He saw it done once on the internet. He's never done it himself so he has no idea the cost and trouble involved. Plus we all know that the 2jz has NEVER had a problem in it's history.....ever.

EVERY car that has been modified for high hp has problems. I'm very confused why people think this is some magic thing that only 350z people have problems with their cars. Go to another forum and read all the issues people have with custom cars. The supra forums (your "perfect" 2jz) is littered with failed builds. LSx has probably 10x more people with problems, fails, etc than anything due to the number of people with domestic cars. I watch them blow up every weekend at the track. It's the fact of playing with a car and pushing the limits.

you r right, but i guess a 2jz with stock internals can handle the same power a rebuilt VQ can.
so going to 2jz might be a lower cost solution.
anyways. goodluck for the OP in any way he choose.
