I couldn't find a set for under 500.. I found a single wheel for 175 on eBay but that's the cheapest I could find. But I was going to buy a new set when I got the money to do it. And it was just plasti dip to see if I like it black. I actually bought a powder coating machine and a couple pounds of mirror black powder that is now useless..

Sucks that happened. Good luck with the swap, shouldn't be difficult at all, just time consuming.

Thanks and that's what I'm hoping, it's just a matter of taking a part off one car and putting it in the same exact place on a car sitting right next to it. Should have the engine out today

Ouch. Good luck with the rebuild. I'm in for progress photos.

Be grateful you're living and not badly injured.

Reminds me of another point. Only my passenger side airbag went off! I was under the impression no matter what side was impacted , they both went off.. But yes I'm glad I was wearing my seatbelt

That sucks, but seeing as you painted your wheels (rattle canned?) them black, it's likely you just didn't see some tiny hairline cracks forming over time. The cracked spoke should've been your indicator to replace that wheel. Anyways, hindsight, 20/20 and all that. GLW rebuild!

PS... never powder coat wheels. Paint/polish only. It will reduce the strength of the 356 cast or 6061 forged aluminum material which is precisely heat treated to a desired hardness by manufacturers. Baking at 400 degrees (or even less possibly) over-ages the alloy. Anyone tells you otherwise, they're just uninformed.

Day 6: dropped trans, removed front right suspension that was crushed.. And finished removing entire wire harness, and headers. Engine comes out tomorrow after I go get my chassis! I'm getting there slowly.. Btw there's one wire that goes to the very top of the transmission that is literally impossible to unplug without dropping it down. This would have been helpful knowing before it fell and broke the wire. Just have to solder it back because I don't even wanna know how much a new entire harness cost..

Like this guy mentioned, small cracks likely propagated all through the internal structure of the rim. the final failure would happen somewhere closer to the rim where there is a greater velocity and tangential acceleration. Sorry OP I find the post failure analysis quite interesting when it's not my vehicle

A question for you Mcarther. Isn't it possible to heat treat powder coated aluminum and return it to it's original strength?

I just wished I would have noticed earlier and replaced the wheel. I had been looking for a single wheel to match and couldn't find one locally. And I'm right now in the process of pulling the engine out, does anybody have any tips other than to clear that power steering line?

Day 7: uhaul decided to rent their last trailor out from under me so I decided to just come home and pull my motor, took about a hour! The motor mount on the passenger side (wreck side) was broken in half.. I can't decide if this was because of the wreck or me pulling the crammed engine out of its home.

How are the door lines on the passenger side, does it still open and close easy enough? Quite a hit you took there

Why does it look like a N/A intake/filter but you also have an intercooler?

I hate these kind of stories. They are so avoidable. You didn't make one mistake you made several.
1 Why no collision insurance? You can afford F/I but not good insurance?
2 You were informed about the rim in advanced but cared more about finding a matching rim than your own saftey and that of others on the road.
3 Your Z didnt have a spare tire/wheel? Thats what it's for. Not just for flat tires but also can be used for damaged wheels.
4 Your going with a flood car. A friend of mine bout a car with "minor water damage" and the bushings were clearly damaged by that. Then he had to work all day changing a couple bushings because of the amount of rust on nuts and threads. Just asking for trouble in my opinion.

I do hate that your Z is wrecked but I find it hard to feel bad for somebody that chose to put theirself in this possision. As it was said, hind sight is 20/20 & Im sure you would do things differantly. I hope others on here that aren't running good insuance but enjoying the ownership of a Z will rethink that.

Classy: driver sides perfect and passenger side is off a 1/8 of a inch but still opens and closes fine. That's why I was considering just welding a new front clip on.

Freddy: 700

Djamps: I have two tunes saved on my ecu, one for naturally aspirated and one for boost. I would just disconnect one of my charge pipes and attach a cone filter for better gas mileage haha

Nfsp: ... Your going to critisize my financial situation? I had full coverage until I got laid off, so now I just drive safely. And according to white tire that put new tires on "the placement of the crack is from a speed bump and shouldn't have any effect on the reliability" he told me it was fine to ride on. I was going to replace it when I found the money. I had to take a loan to have the money to go get this frame tomorrow. And the frame is just a bare chassis. I don't know why you don't understand that I have to take every single thing off of it to have it painted and put all of my car back on it. My suspension and everything that isn't broken, and what's broken will be replaced with new parts.

Well, regardless of what's happened, the important thing is that nobody was hurt.

Good to see you working relatively fast on moving everything over. Post as many details as you can and with lots of pictures.

Day 8: still on the way back from a 8 hour adventure towing this car back. Probably the best $700 I've ever spent. He gave me all the interior and both airbags! Both dash pieces and even the radio. By the looks of it only the front end was exposed to a little water. Only way I can tell is a little surface rust on front brakes (which is normal for any car). It even came with all aftermarket sway bars and painted caliper covers!
