Default Is 3" piping too big???

i thinking bout changing the y-pipe and b-pipe. Is 3" piping too big?? I heard that larger piping can actually lower your low end power and is only for F/I. Is this true? Will this hurt my performance?? any thoughts or suggestion is appreciated.

the larger piping will not hurt your performance. The loss of low end power is often attributed to loss of back pressure, and with headers/test pipes, high flow cat back, there is little pressure, and you may lose a little at the bottom, but it will make up for it on the higher rpms. All cat backs use 3" pipes with much success. You should be fine. And i love my injen CAI

thanks.
i do not have headers/test pipes, or an aftermarket exhaust.
all i got are the rt cats so far. i want to keep my oem muffler and switch out the y and b pipes to have a more free-flowing set up. but i don't want my performance to suffer, so how much do you think my low end power will be affected??

btw... glad you like the CAI

i really think low end will stay the same, with alittle added up top. Even if you throw at cat back on you will still be fine IMO. The Y and B pipes will open it up a bit more, but your low end will stay the same most likely.

I went with a Fujitsubo Y-Pipe which has a 3" collector, into the Pro-1 Exhaust which is 3" as well. That along with headers and high-flow cats. No decrease in power...as a matter of fact there was an increase! No problems here and sounds great as long as the silencers are in

I have true dual 2.5 inch catback and am about to install XERD headers. I'm not having any low end torque problems. Even with the open exhaust and JWT flywheel I get a 2.0 60 foot in the 1/4. It will pull off the line pretty good.

Fujitusbo y-pipe with 2.5" collector, into 2.5" collector on the Apex N1...

Apex N1 then opens to 3" before muffler.

No loss here.

i was thinking of doing a 3" catback w/ dual HKS titanium canisters (like the one wicked4u2c posted and photoshopped). I was wondering if i was going to lose power because of this (no backpressure).

i guess it would be the same question it's being asked here?

i really dont think the 350Z will lose power from 3" piping. Other cars might that have tuned exhausts that have the minimum amount of back pressure, but the Z seems to love high flowing exhaust systems even with headers, high flow cats, and 3" Y and B tubes. I noticed alittle increase in the low end and a decent amount of increase at the top from my nismo catback.

sounds nice. but its a little raspy when i rev it up 4500 to 5000 rpms or so. it doesn't really bother me, but i would not want the "raspy-iness" to increase. especially since the mid-pipe resonator will be different.

Mid pipe on nismo exhaust is 3.16"
and Y pipe collector ends up at 3.16 as well as the JIC y pipe...

I have the ultimate racing 3 inch y-pipe connected to the HKS CF/Ti Canister and it sounds perfect, not raspy at all.

I'm pretty sure it was installed correctly.
its not a big raspy noise or anything.....but i can hear a little bit of raspiness when i rev it up to 5000rpm. not a horrible noise, but if you listen for it you can hear it.
