Is this 4.08 differential what's causing the cruise control to be deactivated on my car? I think I read somewhere that it will do that.

The gears in the diff shouldn't have anything to do with the cruise...

And there are plenty of people who would swap you for that 4.08. If I didn't do so much highway driving I'd have them in my Z. But doing 80mph with 4.08's isn't fun for anybody.

Yeah, for sure. Unfortunately I do a lot of highway driving because I live on campus 120 miles round trip from home. I'll take a look at it this weekend and hopefully be able to confirm that it's a 4.08 differential causing the high rpms and not a bigger issue!

Do you have VDC or TCS?

Might try turning it off and testing the cruise.

The fourth letter "A" does not mean auto, it means the engine type.

http://nissanhelp.com/diy/common/nissan_vin.php

The vin will not tell you whether the car is a manual or auto. Only way to truly tell what came out of the factory would be to look up your vin at a dealer.

Really? I'm gona have to check my vin. Learn something new every day.
I've checked many 4.5-6s and I see the A...the single vtc hump and know there's no cd009

VIN decryption varies from vehicle to vehicle, but on Nissans it's a vehicle code, A being a group of engines.

I wasn't aware that you could tell what transmission a car had by the VIN.....Oh, wait, it won't.
