Default Vq35de

"Looking to purchase used 350z roadster. Have been reading about problems with the VQ35DE motors burning oil in the 06 model year cars. Would like to know if this is a real problem that is common to this motor. Any information will be greatly appreciate...

Honestly, it's a problem that I have noticed in every 350z I've owned. 03 04 and 08, I cannot vouch for the 06, but my 08 will go through about a quart every couple of months. As long as you make sure you ALWAYS add oil every few months, you will be 100% fine with any year z. The 03 had transmission problems btw. So that would be the one to avoid

Redsx-you had regular vq35de in your 03, 04 and the hr in your 08. A quart every couple of months is nothing compared to the reported issues with the revup redesigned motor used in 6mt 05-06 zs and 6mt 05-07 g35 coupes. The ring design led to an excessive amount of oil consumption. My car would eat 1-2 quarts every couple of weeks. Not all revups had this problem but it was heavily documented on this motor.

Check the car you are going to buy. It may not have the revup motor depending of the transmission.

I think if you buy a 06 (or 05 special addition) by now, most the bad motors should for the most part be weeded out. My 06 with a Revup does use a little. I use about 1/3 quart every 1000 miles. Its not that bad overall, and nowhere near the usage that some people reported.

Like I said, if you find a 06 with 80-100K miles on it, more than likely it fine, even if if uses a little.

I lose a little less than quart every 3500 miles.

the rings weren't designed for gasoline produced in america... the block was ship from europe(renualt) the HR block is the same just with the rings all swapped over... nissan wasn't ready to put out the HR just yet in 06 and had the REVUP(DeR) from the 35th anniversary a year or so early and the problem wasn't an issue just yet. I I bought my 06 about a year ago, and in the service report the rings had been brought up to standard 30K ago and I haven't burned anything more than wouldn't be normal for how I drive. lol

So how much oil is normal, after a rebuild, for how you drive?

I didn't quote the other random stuff that had no explanation.
