Question Help with clutch noise...

When the clutch is out (foot is off the peddle) a rumbling noise is heard from under the car. I say under the car because its heard more when the door is open. I can still hear it inside the car. I think it might be the TOB (throw-out bearing) BUT it has a light weight flywheel and I've heard about them making noise because of the less weight... im new to the 350z and Nissans all together.. Help please lol....

Also under load there is a "vibrating' noise..... idk. the shift **** is aluminum so i thought it might just be from that but more from the mysterious transmission noise.... (TOB)

Very possible it's normal, also possible you have a light weight flywheel and once again it would be normal.

Ken I feel like this would not be normal if you were all stock. I am experiencing the same issues and it is driving me crazy. My drivetrain is all stock I had the clutch assembly replaced about 10k miles ago because it blew out literally fluid all over the place. They replaced the clutch, flywheel, throw our bearing, pivot fork and when I am sitting in traffic there is a very noticeable wining/grinding noise. The noise is amplified if you are in line next to a brick wall for instance in a drive through but still apparent in everyday traffic. If I put the clutch in then the noise goes away; let out the clutch and it appears again.

Is anyone else having this problem with a stock clutch/flywheel cause its driving me crazy. I have a cd001 so I do have grinding in 3,4,5, and 6th gear I do not know if that plays a factor but if any one could shed some light it could really help.

I don't want to thread jack or anything but it could help out the OP as well.

Light flywheels will allow for chatter due to being lighter and being a solid flywheel instead of dual mass.

350Z's have noisy transmissions. All stock if it's idling in neutral you're going to hear the transmission. Push the clutch in and the sound goes away because the gears stop spinning.

Light flywheel + noisy transmission = very noisy idle.

Only thing you can do to make it quieter is get an automatic or buy a different car.

I have looked up videos on youtube and it seems to be just noise from the LW flywheel... so thats what im going with.
And im fine with the noise as long as its not the TO bearing and i dont have to drop the tranny..

the noises do go away when the clutch peddle is pushed in, yes.

---Rembrandt... maybe your synchronizers are bad?

Yea my synchros are shot with out a doubt. Upshifting, downshifting, it doesn't matter I need to make the cd009 swap. Hopefully that will get rid of the creaking noise my clutch peddle makes since I understand it is due to the pivot ball if I am correct.

In my opinion I feel it is just unacceptable the build quality of our cars. It is something I find very disappointing I mean a world wide car manufacturer couldn't make a quality drivetrain or at least fix what took multiple revisions for those of us who bit on earlier models? I just feel it is not anywhere near the quality of what a world wide car manufacturer should be at. I mean guys with 370z's are still have grinding issues even having 2nd gear lock outs that is just pathetic.

Oh and I have a 2003 model as well thats the only reason why I jumped in with what is going on with my car. The issue sounded similar.

Do you have a video of the sound? My 04 has made a little bit of flywheel chatter since the day I bought it when my foot was off the peddle. I've come to find it completely normal but now reading this I'm starting to think it's not..

How many miles are on yours? I am at 115,000 80% highway since I have a very long work commute but my synchros didn't start acting up till probably 60k. 3rd was the first start grinding and then they all followed both up and down shift. My clutch assembly was replaced at about 98k. I'll try to take a video soon the only other abnormality is in the morning when the car is cold it will make a loud whistle noise continuously for about 5 miles then when it's properly warm it goes away. Even after letting engine warm before driving. So yeah there's that too.
