Check out this mod... gained 10 HP (dyno)
I'm trying to point out that you can't go solely by peak HP when deciding Actual Mod Benefit (AMB). It's the total area under the graph that matters.
Look at VandyZ's graph compared to mine. His mods increase the total area under the graph. My "mythical" mod actually decreases the area under the graph even though the max HP number is higher.

This is getting crazy. Does anyone race their cars here?
There was a Mercedes Benz on a Dyno in Cameron Park (a repuatble board member/mechanic here told me this at the car show yesterday) that made 439rwhp. Cameron Park if you are from Nor Cal is very upper class up in the foothills etc beautiful, anyways.
This beast actually brakes the straps that is tying it down and launches out of the garage while the operator is braking like he!!... It last read 439rwhp before snapping the tie down.
True story.
A Dyno killed my car once too, another true story.
Race the thing man. There are cars making 350rwhp and have never been to the track???? So you can hang a certificate on the wall?
Whatever floats your boat man, I'm racing mine and proudly boast a 12.2 @115 mph with a 250rwhp Dyno
I'm done with the dyno subject, too much work to type and it's a beautiful sunday here.

Dan, I agree... I'm overstating things--but I'm doing so to make a point. If the total area under the curve from 4000 rpm to 6500 rpm decreases because of a mod, there are very few practical applications (street, track, autox, drag strip etc) where that mod is going to be beneficial.

However, just because racing is important to *you* doesn't mean it's the only reason to have a fast car. If 1/4 mile times are all that matters, we all wasted a lot of money on the wrong kind of car.
I think you'd agree that the HP numbers that are being bantied about around here can be deceptive and don't necessarily indicate how fast a car actually is. They are only one of many indicators.

Yea I race my car, and I dyno my car. As it is now I won't be snapping any straps in the near future. And if I do, I think my tuner would shoot me. I'd go plowing right into his Cobra.
I don't want any certificates, and just like you, you can bet I won't be boasting about any of my results here anymore.

Steve - I hear what you're saying and I agree.

Area under the curve is everything, peak hp is crap.
Example:
A. guy makes 435 hp at 6800rpms
B. guy makes 383 from 5500 rpms to 6800rpms
who wins the race?
B. will smoke A. Because A will only be at his peak power for not even a spilt second b/c once he hits 6800 (redline) he has to shift right back out of his power. Whereas B shifts right into his power.

Thats what I was thinking.
No it's not what you were thinking you were calling me a liar, nice try though but the silly gestures won't change that.
In regards to your dyno magazine race math please allow me to add in a "C"
C. The better driver wins, now throw up the rock on head banger gesture on that!
Peas!
