Default 3rd gear grinds at high rpms

Hey guys, I have my 03 Z Touring Edition. Car runs greats and shifts nice and smooth for the most part. However, I have one issue. My car grinds when I upshift to 3rd gear. If I drive it normally, it drives just fine. I've noticed that once I reach 4,000 rpms in 2nd gear and attempt to shift to 3rd, it grinds. When I revmatch to downshift into 3rd, it never grinds and shifts just fine too. Also, this only began happening once the cold weather really started to settle in. Do you guys think this is happening only because of the cold weather? Or will I need a transmission rebuild in the future due to syncro wear or something a long those lines?

Try the fluid first. Double-clutch until you find a CD-009 at a decent price?

What they all said. Except for the "jam it in" part. Hahahaha!

Known issue with some of the early 001 transmissions.

Syner mentions the CD-009.... that's the later version ('05+) where the 3rd gear issue was resolved using an extra cone synchro on third gear cog.

No need to rush out to swap your tranny if you're careful and finesse third up and down as you are doing.

FWIW, I swapped to Redline MT-85 GL4 two years ago in an effort to quell the issue. Didn't help me so I resorted to just changing my shifting style on this car. More double clutch, rev match, etc, all better for clutch and tranny anyhow.
