I think you can remove the upper pan with all that still in there, or I hope at least since I have to do it in a month or so.

Just replaced my rack:

- remove outer tie rods from knuckle (use a ball joint separator tool, a pickle fork will damage the outer tie rod).
- remove lower chassis brace
- remove clamp and low pressure line from the nipple on the rack (this is right below where the steering knuckle attaches)
- remove the high pressure line flare fitting (beside low side nipple, Use a flare wrench to prevent a stripped high side line)
- LEAVE lines on the body of the rack! Do not need to remove those.

- Mark steering knuckle in relation to rack splines and steering shaft splines
- Remove the two bolts clamping the steering knuckle to steering shaft and rack.
- Slide steering knuckle UP the steering shaft splines and OFF the steering rack (LOTS OF penetrate lube here! and two hands help if your on your back)
- Remove rack bolts and your good to drop.

get a factory service manual
but you can unbolt the rack and drop it down a little bit with the fluid lines connected
