the other instructions and check voltage at cable, the fans still co on with key on.

Right, and after that ^ do the 'hard' reset. If still nothing, replace ECM. (like Cux & Cobra said)

I think OP needs to take his car in. I think this one might be beyond his abilities.

Sometimes you just need to throw in the towel. Nothin wrong with that.

Really? I kinda' thought we were getting somewhere.. Worry about your fob and alarm when it happens. Programming the fob is easy. So is replacing your ECM.. We've basically given you all the info you need to determine if your ECM is bad or not, plus it's location, and plus some sites to get it from.

I don't know.. I think he's just getting a bit overwhelmed.. Just take a step back for now, Tom. Maybe re-read the thread to put the steps in perspective a little better..

What year is the car? Lots of people will sell the computer with the key and the other goodies needed. Ive never had to replace my ecu, ive removed it and reinstalled without issues.

I believe that the computer would need to be reprogrammed at Nissan or a shop that has the specific Nissan programming.

You could pick up a used computer for $100 probably... The dealership will probably be a whole lot more... If you happen to have an 03 auto I might know a guy who has one laying around... Or if its an 04 manual also might know a guy.

You would want to get one from the exact year and similar options because they won't all work on all cars.

If you call these guys they will probably help and explain things better than any dealership... They are pretty much the place for all VQ powered buggies.

I sure hope I have at least another 15 years, I have plans for
road trips that long, then I will take time to lay down and rest !!
I am just waiting until all the Family leaves after Thanksgiving,
then order the ECM and get started. The one I looked at has
the keys and switch with it and only $144.00 w/guarantee. so I will order it.

Default Same issue but slightly different

I have crank but no spark. However, if I remove my crankshaft sensor, the car starts and idles rough then stalls. Replaced both cam and crank sensors twice now. + alot more. I' Just confused on how it will start without the crank sensor but won't start with one

Well !!, Finally a little bit of news on the ongoing saga of my 2005 350z, I had the ECM rebuilt by
The company in Ill. when I got it back NO better, car would crank over but not start. I finally gave
up and took it to a Mechanic. That shop could not find the problem. so I had it towed to the
Nissan shop. After a week of testing the mechanic said the fuse box located in the battery cavity
was bad so he ordered and installed it ?? After installation, he told me he had checked
ALL my work and there were no broken wires etc. He stated that all seemed to be normal
with the exception of having very little spark, not enough to fire !! , after a few more days
they called and told me the re-built computer was bad and they could not get another one,
so now I have to tow back home and then ?? They suggested I part it out, but I am NOT
going to do that. I will ship the computer back and let them re-check it and try again.
Meantime, I will look into getting my Grand-Daughter another car

ECU controls the spark and fuel injection. The power for the spark does not come from the ecu, each coil pack has 3 wires, 2 for charging and 1 for the signal from the ECU. A simple way to test would be to hook up a oscilloscope to the signal wire of one of the coils or injector. You should also be able to her the fuel pump prime up. If none of this is happening...then focus on the ECU. If the ECU is not getting the "all good" from the BCM/ignition RFID reader then check that too.

If the fans still come on immediately, the ecu is not talking. You wouldnt be able to hook an obdii. The question is, what did you do when you were changing coil packs to cause this.

Also, what brand coil packs? can you install your old ones back. What else did you do that day?

Screw the dealer and shops in Illinois. All i ever hear is constant ******** from their techs when its not a straight forward job. They make up the most mundane crap ever and still charge people good money.

Thanks Cux 350z As soon as I get it back from the dealer I will try the things you suggested, I have to agree with you, the dealer takes a High School Boy and shows him how to work the computer and all of a sudden he becomes a "Super" Tech. I guess I am a little disgusted right now, but when I go over and retrieve it this weekend I am not going to feel pushed and just go back to some good old time trouble shooting, I wish I had a scope but do not, so I will try the other things. Does the BCM control the spark and ECM only sends the signal to fire ?? Thanks to all of you guys, I am now in the fun mode, My Grand Daughter has decided to get a another car so now I have all the time I need to "piddle".

no the bcm handles the body functions, stands for body control module. I believe it interfaces the key chip reader and then sends a message over the CAN network to the ECM.

ECM controls ignition and spark.
