Default "Built" 5AT

I started this venture with an automatic car. Not by choice however, an injury as a firefighter 10 years ago makes my left foot useless at best.
So drag racing is basically my option. I traded my 3v mustang GT in last year for My 2004, 350z 5AT. It has some bolt ons and a ZEX 125 shot, up rev tuned locally.
I was planning on my first venture down the old half track last week, when I found a new Vortech kit for hell of a deal. Drag racing is put on hold as my supercharger gets installed in place of the juice. Search of the forum shows a trans cooler is a must-do.
I see plenty of "built" automatics available through a google search by various companies.
I guess I'm not wording the search correctly in our forum. I can't find a solid answer on who is the go to for a built 5AT that can handle the extra power.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

If you are keeping the blower in its "stock" form, I think you'll be alright. Get a Transgo shift kit and let it rip. I don't think you would need a trans cooler for drag racing.

Definitely need a transmission cooler if you're going to be boosting the car. Keeping the fluid cool is one of the keys to making power without burning out the clutch friction discs. I used to have a 5AT holding about 580 whp but that was the limit. That was with a transgo valve body upgrade, upgraded frictions (rebuilt clutch packs), and more efficient torque converter. And of course, a huge transmission cooler. It cost about $5k back in the day.

Good luck

Import Performance Transmissions or "IPT". Talk to John, one of the owners.
Also, consider keeping the n2o, especially if your most interested in drag racing. It adds little weight in comparison and dramatically cools the air charge. The supercharger will add mucho weight in the worst possible spot. You can always step up the hp level and a 2 stage setup. If your set on the s.c., the n2o will be very useful as well.

Dragging my 5 AT 04 G35 on a power enterprise TT kit and 400 hp I blew up my factory trans (no aftermarket transcooler). I replaced it with Speed Force Racing's built 5AT an 12.4 on Nitto 555 295 street tires before buying a GTR and running 11.4 out the box. I may be willing to part with it for a reasonable price, don't drive the car that much, shifts awesome. PM me if interested

It will depend how "deep" in the build you want to go. For starters get a big cooler for it. But like some say you can beef it up with internals, or you can go all out with a high performance unit from the get go. I know people who have road raced Z's and at the very least a big cooler is required. The more fluid the better.
