Default Advice on Smoke From Engine bay

Overheating and now smoke from engine on start-up. See pic for the area of the white smoke. Car overheats when driven and will smoke from circled area on start. Oil all around the area. Can I drive this to mechanic <5 miles>. Thanks.

diagnostic and advice.

Hard to tell from the pic, but if that is the valve covers then you have two separate issues. The valve cover is leaking and you have oil dripping down on the exhaust manifold, which is being burnt off and causing smoke. No big deal, but your valve cover gasket will need to be replaced to fix that. Safe to drive.

I'd figure out why you are overheating though. That will be your biggest detriment.
