Default Clutch slips at 50mph

I have an 04 with a manual transmission. I can drop the clutch and spin the tires no problem, but if I am driving 50mph and step on the gas to pass someone the clutch slips badly. Not downshifting to pass, just driving like the old man I am. And I mean it slips and stinks up the car, I am sure if I didn't let off I could fry it completely.

Is there some hydraulic adjustment or something else that is out of spec? I don't see how a clutch that grabs and lights up the tires at a standstill could slip under mild acceleration at speed??

I would really appreciate any help.

Sounds like it's a newer clutch that hasn't been broken in yet(heat cycled) which is why it holds when you drop it. Do that about 10-20 times in 2nd gear(equivalent to about 500 miles of driving) and it should be good

supposedly it has about 24k on it, but can you really trust a guy selling a used car. Anybody recommend a clutch for a daily driver with a few track days in there? All stock.

JWT is a go-to.

I have been looking at JWT, only negative I can find is an occasional comment about being a bit loud. Assume you went with JWT, did you notice much sound difference when you installed it? I am looking for a step up from OEM, nothing too grabby. Also considering Exedy

My vote goes to Exedy, it's what Nissan chose for the new Z after all, it's what they do, they've been around for a while too. Nothing against JWT but I'd take Exedy over them for budget, if money isn't too much of an issue then Nismo.

JWT (and any clutch/flywheel setup with lightweight flywheel) WILL make more noise, chatter, input shaft clattering - the "cement mixer" sound) due to natural dampening of a cast iron and/or dual mass flywheel. The kid's car has a JWT HD clutch coupled with a nodular iron, 26lb single mass flywheel. No objectionable increase in the noise, etc. Take up is firmer than stock and works well.

Exedy is a good choice (specific models, can't say). They've been around for like 70-some years and was an OE supplier to Nissan (and just about the entire Japanese car manufacturing industry) under the name Daikin way back when. I sold them in the 70s. When I ordered an "OE clutch" a few years ago for my last S30, what arrived was an Exedy. Great performance and a reasonably priced unit. I don't think you can go wrong with that history.

I'd recommend clutchmax. Running 335wtq through their stock replacement with no issues(I beat on it like it's rented) Cost me $65 and about 4 hours of my time to change it
