Can I run a hotter plug in a 2003 350 to help with oil fouling?
As many know on these, burns oil horribly but runs good with great compression. It's my kid's car. # 1 and 3 oil foul and have to be cleaned frequently. Can I run a hotter spark plug over stock to help?

Not recommended, a one step hotter plug will only burn oil deposits onto the electrode and not clean it. You're better off trying to figure out where the oil contamination is coming from and fix either the valves or rings.
Just trying to treat a symptom and not a root cause. As stated above, I doubt it would work and would consider trying to fix the issue. Make sure it's not the spark plug tube seals leaking as well.
Everything has been replace. No oil in spark plug holes. It's my son's car with 185K miles. Has 180 psi cold compression on all cylinders but oil rings worn out. These cars had a bad design from the get go . I realize that. just trying to make it last for a little while longer. It runs good, but have to clean plugs frequently from oil foul.
What plugs are you running? If you are running iridium NGK's then try the NGK v-power copper and vise versa.
I've never seen a spark plug foul on a 4-stroke motor before. Try swapping coil packs and see if the problem follows the packs. All my coil packs started to go around 145k miles

Hi Tommy,
I recommend installing an Oil Catch Can and replacing your PCV valve. Usually that's how a lot of the oil makes it into the combustion chamber on these engines. The next most common cause is from leaking valve stem seals. The final cause is from the rings, but your rings would need to be extremely bad to get oil fouling on the plugs, so I doubt this is the case. Your cold compression test numbers look healthy for 185k mi. You can also try running thicker oil. With that mileage I would go with 5W-40.
As for catch cans, I'm personally running the Mishimoto kit specific to the VQ35DE. I like it because the install is clean and simple with easy access for servicing. I didn't have to hack or cut anything to make it fit and it's CARB legal. Does it work? You betcha! I've caught quite a bit of contaminants since installing, well worth the costs IMO.
Cheers!
