Cam and Crank Timing Question
I did the gallery gasket job on my 08, but of course the gears slipped and my paint marks rubbed off. As a result I started over from scratch and moved both cams and the crank to the appropriate timing case marks. Following that, I placed the primary chain back on using the appropriate colored links, and now everything looks great. However, I don't recall how many rotations or in what direction I rotated the cams or crank to get all the marks to line up. Note that I did not remove the secondary chains or the cams at all during this process.
- I'm assuming if my intake cams are on the right marks (pointing up to the indent), then the exhaust cams are also pointing up since they rotate together?
- If I rotated one clockwise and the other counterclockwise, can they be out of sync?
- Since the crank rotates twice for every rotation of the cams, can the crankshaft be 180 degrees off if it is also on the correct timing case mark?
They way I usually do it is to set the crank to TDC, then roll it 90 degrees past. Then set the cams to the marks and lock them down with a tool. Then roll the crank back to TDC. Then install the belt.
