Default Transmission Questions

Hello, all. I'm a new owner of a 350Z. Unfortunately I had to get an automatic tranny, as my wife can't drive stick. I tried to teach her, but I figured we'd end up divorced if I had to keep teaching her. I have two questions about the 350Z transmission:

1) Is the tranny the same tranny in the Infiniti Q45? I heard that the G35 had the same tranny as the Q45, so I figured that would mean the Z had the same tranny.

2) With the manual mode tiptronic is it normal to hear or feel a clunk if you downshift at higher than normal RPMs? Additionally, is it at all harmful to use the manual mode? I know it sounds stupid, as the car was designed with this mode in the tranny, but I had an Acura Legend with the sport shifter button and I know that using that button shortened my tranny's life.

Thanks in advance!

Frank

By the way, do you guys think that you need to baby the car for the 1200 mile break in period? I don't to drive it to hard if it means that the future performance of the car will be weakened.

Break it in for 1200 yes

dangerous to use manual mode, NO, unless you are revving to high.

CLUNK? Not good.

Thanks. The clunk was only once or twice. I don't even know if you could call it a clunk. It was more than normal hard engine breaking and high revving. Well, I guess the tranny is covered for 5 years anyway.
