Question UR Crank Pulley = Squeal at Start-up??

Installed my UR Under Drive Crank Pulley last week. NOw ever so often when I start-up my car, it makes this loud squeal noise. Screeeeech! It will only last couple of seconds tho, and it only happens at start-up, idle and driving are perfectly fine. But its pretty annoying. Is this normal? Or is there anyway to eliminate it?

Thanks!

or get the corrected sized belt. one of the listed belts is just a little to large so I had to take it off, bring it in and get one 1/2 inch smaller.

NO SQUEAL!!!!!

I put mine in last Sunday. It was fine Sunday and yesterday but I heard the squeel this morning for about a second or so.

I checked the tension on the belts with the stock pulley on and I thought that I tightened the new belts even tighter. If it keeps happening, I'll try to tighten them even more.

Is there a point where someone could overtighten the belts?

What the others said is correct. 1) change the belt size, I believe it is to be 44.5 inches, not 45.5. 2) tighten a bit more. I forget the amount of slack to leave, but at least check your belt before you remove it, then make it a bit tighter when you replace it with the shorter belt. I have had no squeaks or anything like that sinced installing mine. I had to go across town to get the right belt size in the Goodyear Gatorback brand, but it is well worth the extra 10 or so dollars for a better belt. Good luck!!

I got mine from Concept Z and it came as a kit with the pulley and 2 belts, worked great.

you notice it squeels when its humid or raining?

belts stretch with use, so everything might be the right size, and tightened properly at the beginning, but still need to be retightened.

A 44" belt is your best bet. The 45 1/4" that UR recommends is too big. We have installed half adozen of these alreay and with the belt they say to use, the tensioner has to be brought to the end of adjustment, and then it is still usually still loose... The main Crank/Alternator belt size that I found works well is the 6040...

I had the same problem with my 02 Maxima when I put the UR pulley on. The belts need to be tightened correctly, and during the install I busted one of the belt tensioners. Long story short, it cost a $90 trip to the dealer to fix it...but it never squaked again.

That is odd......I have read other people with the same comments. I guess there is some variance with vehicles......I wonder if there is any correlation with models or build dates???? I thought all VQ35 motors were the same, but some people have to use the shorter belt while others are fine with the longer (recommended) belt size by UR. When installing mine, I thought it was because I did not install the alternator pulley, but then common sense kicked me in the ***, remembering that they sell the pullies individually. I guess as long as you can properly tension the belt while allowing room for future adjustment, all will be ok. It is interesting, however, the issue with varying belt sizes that people use.

Yup, its a 19mm to remove the pulley and you are going to need a LONG 1/2" breaker bar to due so. And youned a 14mm open end to loosen the tensioner pulley and a 12mm socket to move the adjustor rod...... Heres a tip, put the car in gear and have someone stand on the brakes when you try to break loose the crank pulley, Also do this when re-installing.... And I reccomennd a 44" belt for the crank/alternator.... Just my opinion but it works!

Default U/R Recommended belts

I too used the belts sizes that were recommended by U/R and have had no problems. There was a squeal the next day after the install, but after tightening the belts, it's gone and has not returned. I was wondering too about how tight they should be though? Mine are really tight. I was actually afraid that they might snap, but so far so good.

We actually offer Nissan Belts with the UR pulleys kits, and we replaced the 45 cm belt with a 44.09 cm belt, and haven't had a problem with them since
