Switching to synthetic oil
Anyone care to give me an opinion on going with either Royal Purple or Mobil one synthetic oil and what weight for warm climate?

Have not tried royal purple yet, but have done mobil 1 syn the past 2 oil changes. I always look forward to the day of new oil with Mobil 1 syn. I can definitely feel the car is way smoother and is evident especially when shifting/downshifting. The revs are just smoother.
Just some input on my experience with Mobil 1 synthetic.

Redline, if not not Mobil 1. Royal Purple is hype, over priced...like fram.
Anyone know if frams still have cardboard endcaps? They did the research about two years ago, so it may have changed; like how bosch changed to cardboard when the switched the production over to mexico.

Looked up Redline and its about the same price as Royal Purple both are over 6 dollars a quart. What grade are Mobil one guys using? Another interesting thing ive found from drilling down on this is Redline seems to be more available locally than Royal Purple and mobile one is everywhere.
Red Line 15W50
The ultimate high-temperature protection in Red Line engine oils recommended for street use. Good for engines that regularly run very high oil temperatures. Best for engines that run large clearances such as air-cooled engines or large-displacement, all-out racing engines that see occasional street use. Provides 25% more viscosity in bearings than petroleum 20W-50s. Not recommended for use in cold climates where temperatures are at or below 10°F or -12°C. Not recommended for street use in production engines that see sustained oil temperatures below 225°F (those engines should use Red Line 10W-30 or 10W-40).

I don't pick up my wife's Z until this weekend. Does the Z come with synthetic from the factory? Also, when is the first "scheduled" oil change? I usually dump the original oil after about 500 - 1000 miles. I would probably switch to Mobil One after that.

Check your manual on that, it has a temp scale and recommended oil weights. I use Mobil one synthetic for engine oil and the rear differential

Good point, but it's way over there in the garage in my glove compartment. Have some compassion!
