Price on Greddy TT
Sorry I never called you Jeff but my car got hit over the weekend by a dumba$$ old man that never even looked when he was pulling out!!!!!! ARGH I coulda killed him!!!!! The damage isn't real bad but now it has me thinking 2nd thoughts about putting more money into the car for aftermarket stuff.
I am a shop owner, giving me reason to speak up a little here also.
My shop in Chicago is working on becoming the 350z tuner to go to for this area... and we are doing everything we can to learn as much as we can about this new car, and get as much hands on experience with it as we can. We have a very crazy 350z shop car in the works right now.
I also stock the Greddy TT and intercooler kit for this car. If you want me to install it... someone who has done it before and has a passion for this car and making things perfect... you better purchase it from me or I am not at all interested.
I dont make my customers buy all their parts from me, because I dont really care all that much most the time... but I have to make money. I am not a dot com business... this is a real shop and I pay over $6000 just in bills every month, not including pay checks to anyone. If someone is doing a hardcore project, I require them to get any of the SIGNIFICANT parts thru us. There is hardly any money on the parts as is.
I dont want to sound like a *****, but to be honest, if someone cant afford to pay slight extra price I charge on the kit over the cheap dot com guys, then they cant afford to play this game... If the $200 or whatever dollars is that big of a deal, then turbo-charging and voiding the warrenty on your brand new 350z is a really bad idea.
I have nothing to hide, I charge $6250 for the kit with intercooler. Take it or leave it.
You know, you get what you pay for.... sure you paid a little more to buy the kit from me... but guess what... I probably ran your car on the dyno for free just to make sure its all fine and dandy ready for safe daily driving, and I probably took a few more steps in the installation to make things for the better, and I direct connections to get any replacement parts.
And to those of you who think that greddy will not warrenty anything... your wrong. I have warrentied plenty of Greddy stuff... it just has to come from someone they care about.
I read over this and I must say I really hate to sound like a *****, cause I think I do, but this pretty much is gonna be floating around inside the head of anyone in a similiar situation... I have piles of bills every month and if I dont cover my own behind, I can kiss my business good-bye.

phunk, I respect what you have to say, and love that you posted it. Really, I put what you said in a different catergory. Not only do you sell the kit, but you INSTALL and TUNE it. I can see how you would charge more for the initial kit, you can make it up elsewhere. I don't live near Chicago, but I wish I had a company near me that would be able to give me the total package that your company can do, and give it to me with the passion for the car that you can't buy.
Having an authorized dealer that also installs is a best case senerio, but paying more to an authorized dealer to buy the kit, then having to pay more to a separate authorized installer is just a lot more expensive though. Interesting, wonder if Greddy has a list of authorized dealers that install. Something to look into.

I live in PA so why should I buy from someone in PA and have to pay 6% sales tax on top of the parts? That is sooo stupid when I can get it over the internet and not have to pay the tax! If I was closer to evolution I would buy the kit from them and have them put it in. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna give the gov't $354 for something I can buy on the internet and not have to waste that money. Sorry but some people don't want to waste money! For that $354 I could get the unorthodox pulley set or some other part!

i respect what the vendors have to say as well, but i disagree in many ways.
internet competition is something that all businesses deal with, some more then others. if you don't like people purchasing things on the internet, then lower your prices. then they'll go to you. its funny that a lot of larger shops have started opening their own online shops (still with high prices).
i don't know how the import retail industry is like in places other then southern california, but my best guess is that once another autobacs opens, either north towards ventura, or south towards san diego, and as more and more online vendors start carrying high end products (mackin, advan, cusco, cwest, bride, etc etc), some of the 'small' shops in southern california will close.
its called... competition.
and if any retailor/installer turns away a paying customer simply because the customer did not purchase a product (such as a greddy tt) from them, then that installer should consider leaving the retail industry and only working in the services (installation) industry.

even if you were to buy from a greddy authorized dealer that doesn't mean they will be in business a year from now. With todays economy stores come up just as fast as they close. Buy cheap I say, its the same kit no matter who you get it from. Now this should not pertain to a shop that you have a history with or a shop that will do your install. Never smart to go cheap there. Make sure they have done the install with proven results.
Greddy telling people to only buy from a authorized Greddy dealer is BS. It's just a ploy to try and price fix Greddy products. Well it doesn't work. But Greddy really doesn't care anyways because they already have made thier share, wheather you 20 back or 45 back.
