I'd guess the Z06's run mid-high 12's off the showroom floor. I'm curious about the price of a modded Z vs stock Z06. Anyone care to throw out some $ figures of what they have in their Z? The local Chevy dealer tells me he can put me in a brand new Z06 for $50K. I know, I could hit up the vendor area's and do some surfing and come up with some numbers, but I'd like to have some real world amounts.

Hello!
My friend bougth a E55 a couple of weeks ago and he put 12.6@111 at the track but with only 955 miles on the odometer... what miles your Dad E55 have when he did that time... I ask because I believe my friends E55 can do better time when pass the 2000 miles (break-in)
btw I beat a C5 yesterday with no problem... around 1 1/2 car ahead

I bought a slightly used DB Track w/Nav for around $28K. If I put FI and associated mods (cats, exhaust, guages, larger meats to the power down) , plus proper tuning to get around 400-425 rwhp, it would roughly cost $8K-$10K. If you bought your 350 new, you're roughly around the same cost as a slightly used Z06 or maybe even a leftover 2003.
Now, consider than a tuned FI 350Z will probably due the same times (straight-line) as a stock Z06 (lighter weight, arguably better power distribution). BUT it has no warranty, and when you're wringing all of the performance out of it, you'll be watching that A/F/boost/EGT guage just waiting to lift off at the first sign of bad news for fear of blowing the motor.
With the Z06, you can beat on it knowing it was designed to do this, and if you buy a 2003 it's the 3rd version of the Z06 so should be pretty reliable (and still have warranty if something does go wrong). Also, supposedly you can do about $2,000 of mods to it and get another 50-60 hp and it will run with Vipers all day long. That's a straight line, we didn't even discuss how good Z06s are on a road course. It's already been proven that the Z06 can be competitive with 360 Modenas and the like, and the $10K mod figure for the 350Z didn't include the $3K-$5K in suspension mods necessary to put it in the same league (and still be about 300 lbs overweight). Plus, a piped Z06 motor sounds incredible to boot.
All that said, the 350Z is really unique and looks much better IMHO. With my Topspeed Pro-1 exhaust it has one of the most exotic sounding growls of ANY car I've ever heard (
One more time - here are the videos!) and even though they sold 30K of them already, I don't see to many on the road. The interior is much nicer and I like the Japanese take on sports cars - definitely a different feel than 'mericun (I owned C4s and Z28s previously).
Whew - IMHO!

Yeah I know what you mean... I Drove the car a couple of times and the car feel very stronge... the point that I'm concern is about the Trap Speed on the 1/4 mile, your Dad does a 115 and my friend only does 111... I supoust is that the car only have around 950 miles, thats why I ask you about the miles on your Dads car.
Do you know if the car run a little more when break the 2000 miles?
btw the the track time was on Stock tires with 1.95 in the 60ft.

I haev a twin turbo z (stock boost 5.6psi) and have raced my dad on the freeway in his stock c5 ('00) and it was a close race. Those cars are incredibly fast. and I may be wrong but I think the z is weighs alot more than the vet...

It doesn't matter so much to me because I'm not a drag racer, really. My car is configured for autocross racing. In the hands of a good driver (read: not me), it'll probably clip off mid 12's at about 114 MPH, based on my dyno numbers.
The 350Z weighs about the same amount as a C5 coupe or convertible- ~3200 lbs. The Z06 tips the scales at about 3150 lbs. I image that a turbo Z would be a pretty close race with a C5, provided it made around 320 rwhp...

Its not the horsepower that is so important its the gearing! Gearing multiplies your power. You can have a car with 200 hp out accelerate a car with 300 horsepower with just gears.

I have not heard about gearing changes for the Z, has anyone out there changed their gearing?

With my Z28 I ran high 12's it was an A4 and had 2.73's.
With my Firehawk I 12's all day. It had 3.42. I swapped it out to brand new 3.73's and seemed to lose a tenth , another A4.
It ran better with the 3.42's. I blew out the axles and gears with my 3200 TC and 150 shot anyway.
I love the Z06, I just don't want the payment and insurance. I would never hate on a Z06 but I *do* prefer the hardtop coupes on the vettes. When I get my 2900 TC I will take on Z06's even the 405's.

I just traded my 00c5 for a 04 350z. As far as beating a c5 hahaha good luck. The thing is this, the c5 is a nice fast car but theyre a dime a dozen and the styling is almost 80's . The interior is awful, the fit and finish is poor, the gas mileage isnt great and after 60k mi you can expect to encounter some problems.I propbably wouldnt have traded it in if the c6 wasnt due out in sept. For the price of a new 350z(i paid 31,500 for the touring 6) its a nice car, it has great styling and a nice interior but a vette beater it is not. The c5 had awsome power but its styling attracts 60r old men and guidos. Try adding a 100 shot of nos if you want to beat a c5
