Question gas gauge problem??????

so the last few times i filled up my gas i noticed that the gauge doesnt go all the way up to full. it gets too exactly between full and the 3/4 line? after driving for a few miles, it will inch its way up to just under the full line, but wont touch it. i even made SURE it was full by rounding up the price to the next dollar. (you know, a few sents at a time.) but still the same thing???? does anyone else have this problem? what would cause that? i seem to remember the gauge going OVER the full mark before, but i cant remember for sure???? anyone fill up recently? thanks guys!

It may be the gas station you went to. There was a thread about this exact same thing. Some gas stations will cut the fuel off early. I would try a different gas station.

My guage goes way past full so you are correct on that part.

On my 89 IROC Z28 this issue was caused by an in tank sensor placement being off. It was too high, so when I took corners on less than half a tank it would make dramatic changes, I imagine if it isn't something like that then the guage is bad.

go all the way to E and then see if it takes 20 gallons, remember the reserve too. I can go about 60 miles after the light comes on (this was a forced situation and I was praying haha) I usually never run it that low.

Yeah sounds like the dash guage is working it is something beyond that because my 60 miles was all highway ater the light came on so 40 would be about normal.

the empty on all the gauges is 5gallons short of really empty. so if you have 20-30miles left you actually have like 6-7gallons in the tank. its a huge reserve.

as for getting full. try another pump. but ussually that makes it cutoff at half full not almost full, but maybe.

Isn't the gas tank capacity about 20 gallons? I seriously doubt the reserve is 30% of the capacity. And nobody I know can put 26 gallons in their tank.

it is 20. thats what Im saying, how many gallons do you put in at a fillup? Ive taken it down to 20DTE and only put 14.7gallons in. anyone actually put a number close to 20 in like 18 or more? Id bet it was pegged at E and the DTE was flashing 0.

the reserve is 5gallons, but when the DTE says less than 40 or so it warns you, so unless you run the DTE to 0 you never even hit the reserve reserve.

That's amazing, and unusal. I can't tell you how many gallons I put in at fillup, my wife's car is only 3 days old and we haven't had to put any gas in it yet.

However, if I hadn't read this thread and the car was on "E" and I went to fill it up, I would of expected about 18-19 gallons. Now I won't be shocked if I can only put in 14 or 15.

Yeah, the tank and guages are bizzare on this car.

I first bought it and was shocked that everyone said the tank was 20gallons...since I had been getting about 16.8 into it after driving on what I thought was fumes.

His handle is Zpresenz or something like that.

Thanks Ares maybe I am wasting my money. I got 400 miles on on tank coming back from LA all freeway and when I got to Sac it said 38 miles DTE so if your theory is true then I am doing pretty good. Who wants to be the forst to run out and get stranded and let us know?

Today I had a 1/4 tank. It took 10 gallns and was full if that helps in the math. I hate math. Why am I still awake anyway?

Out...
