Default Which To Buy First: Vortech Kit Or Stroker Kit?

I was wondering what would be the best to do first that will also be the most reliable one for the street? Trying to at least make over 350hp with either one. I was talking to so people and they said the stroker kit COULD MAYBE put out around 400hp by itself. But I want to get low comp pistons so I wonder if that will still increase the hp sense it will become a 4.3, or will it decrease or be the same? Thanks

dont get the low compression stroker kit unless you have FI, the car will be very sluggish even at 4.3L, you either have to get both at the same time or get the S/C and then get the low compression stocker kit once your ready for it

sluggish?!? I don't think 400 whp is sluggish in the least bit! I would actually do the stroker kit first if I was you... that way you can gauge the power you have and see how you like the results and if you even need F/I to meet your needs (reliability being a key factor in the equation)

The lower the compression the weaker a NA car is gonna be.

you will have no where near 400 whp with a low compression stroker kit if its N/A

I wish this stuff was cheaper. I was exited about the stroker kit untill i found out how much it was. Maybe after it has been out longer these kits will come down in price.

I would get the Vortech kit since I know that will make the kind of power that you are looking for in a streetable RPM range. I don't think that anyone here has gotten, or even driven, a car with the stroker kit so we don't know yet what kind of power this thing is going to make or where in the RPM range it will be.

Do not listen to those words of advice, (be glad you not him....lol)

A lower compression larger motor will probably make more torque (then stock) because of the larger displacement, but without the FI lower compression is not where you want to be.

Now if you want the best, get the stroker w/8.5:1 comp. and a TURBO to say 14psi, you will have so much torque you wont know what to do with it all....and your peak HP will be silly once fully spooled

Listen to Knuguy's advise hes right, also if you plan on the stocker kit I wouldnt go with a S/C go with turbo like Knuguy said

If you wait on the FI but get the built low CR motor, you will pick up about 20% from displacement, but lose about 20% from the CR drop if my math is right. The motor will make the same power, but with less fuel economy and for a fee of $8000.

If you get the Vortech/turbo/whatever now, you can play around with more power until you get the built motor and then you get even more.

Seriously though, the built 4.3 with 14 psi should put down 600-700 at the wheels. Crank the boost to ~20 with some high flowing heads and water injection and you're starting to talk supra power levels...

I dont think the VQ will handle 700RWHP. There have been many a blown motor with far less than that.

I am not sure why anyone would want the stroker kit for the Z anyway. Your redline will be reduced significantly, and for the gearing on our cars, we want to increase our redline. Shifting at 5k rpm, no matte what the HP is not going to be fun.

Couldn't you always put in a lower ratio final drive to fix that?

IMO the only reason to do the stroker kit is if you are 100% sure you are going to go FI and are going to get an extreme kit with a lot of boost.

If you have the engine built and ready, then you can make a turbo/supercharger set up that can give you more output and will really put your stroker kit to use.

Otherwise just get a Vortech and no stroker....just me $.02

ranger, if he's getting the AEBS kit, it has full locking sleeves that are substantially thicker than the stock sleeves on our cylinder walls. The guy from AEBS is actually talking about raising the redline with the kit as well.

You're right in that it will increase reciprocating mass and increase strock, but this $8000 kit isn't Joe Blow stroking his small block Chevy to 383 from 350. It's got some nice parts and is pretty professionally put together from what I see.

You're right about the 5K shifting, that would be poo-poo. I'm looking at those Nismo heads with new cams and a new crank because I think it would be nice to take it up to 8K!

actually i was told the stroker kit will rev close to 8000rpm and the kit will hold 20plus psi....read alittle about what aebs says about the vq block....they seem to think its stronger than a supra block.....(someone corect me if im wrong)but this is what i was told when i called aebs
and then look at the twin turbo vq35 block the shop in jersey is building....they are expecting 1700 hp....

your right ranger motors have blown with alot less power....but then there are a couple of cases in here that shock motors have blown.....

i personally would save a little money from the stroker kit and tell them to keep the crank...use the factory crank and then your looking at about 4.0 instead of 4.3 and then go f/i....should save about 3 grand on the stroker kit doing it that way....almost enough to do the stroker and f/i at the same time.....

good luck with what ever you do

tony

Interesting, so many totally different thoughts in one tread, lol. I could see this trend becoming a few pages long just cause of the disagreement, heh.

Well, my thoughts are this. Why throw away the stock parts when you have not even used them for a significant amount of miles??? I would rather get the additional parts of FI, run around in a fast car, then if you want to go even faster, then you can get the internal engine upgrade (ie stroker kit). Heck, you will probably need the stroker kit once you run around a bit on the stock parts for a while.

After following this method, you get the most for your money out of your car both performancewise and milewise. Replace with the stroker kit at 12,000, then if you keep your car, you might need another one at 120,000. Use your stock components with boost for like 50,000 or more, then you can use the stroker kit for the rest of the life of the car.

You can rev to 7000 rpm. VQ with the sleeves can hadle 1000+ horses

You could always buy the stroker kit with low compression and till you get the turbo use Vq30 heads. Your compression ratio should be about 9.8.1 so almost stock. Or use maxima VQ35 headgasket to raise to 10:3:1 which is stock. Then when you are going to boost put the vq35 heads back on.

Sweetness

That's an idea right there. Definitely want the Nismo heads in the end of everything, but Maxima heads would do the trick in the meantime.

Does the timing gear on the VQ30 head match the stock location on the VQ35?
