Default Lightweight Seats

so what is the weight of the stock seats; 37 lbs.? i found these on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33591

19 lbs. each. 36 lbs. lighter for around $350 shipped. i don't think it's too bad considerin a cf hood only will lose u 10 lbs. i would opt for the black handles though. the bling bling chrome just doesn't cut it for me. anybody try any lightweight seats yet?

dont forget the 10lb solid steel brackets to install the seats. i have found that lightweight seats gain you very little weight reduction, and end up being mostly for show purposes. if you want a really good weighsaver just take out your passenger seat.

I put a sparco fighter in my car and saved about ten pounds. As someone mentioned, the mounting bracket weighs a lot.

Mine is definitely not for show though. I found the stock seat completely useless in thigh support with my long legs (6'4"). Also, the stock seats don't provide much lateral support on the track. My Sparco does both. It was a real pain to install though.

Well, I am not sure about the exact weight differences, but I garuntee you it is weeeeell over 5 pounds. Esspecially total!

You can't forget the difference is not only cloth to leather. The leather seats are also heated, and powered. All of the electronics and motors in he seats probably weigh a good amount.

On a side note, I plan on getting some Recaro Pole Positions at some point. IMO the Z is just too big inside. The seats don;t hug me at all and kind of takes away from that " I'm part of the car" feel. I like to to get a car and feel connected to it, the stock seats just don't do that.

So I'd do it for that "feeling"
For added support
And for weight savings even if minimal.
Oh and of course, the show factor

But honestly, most of what I am looking for is that connected feeling.

The difference between my stock seat assembly (with airbag) and the sparco is about 10lbs. That's it. Those fargen mounting brackets weigh a ton.

with a reclining seat, you are not going to save much weight vs stock - stock one are pretty light already,

Converting to a full race bucket is a whole different story though!

I had thought about swapping my seats out, but given my size (5'11, about 190), I have not found a seat that was as comfortable or as grippy as the stock, non leather seats are - they are the best OEM seats I have ever been in in this price category.

Seats are a really relative thing - not something one person can recommend to another - you have to experience them for yourelf

Z1,
My seat isn't a recliner though. It's a fiberglass fixed back design. I think the actual seat itself only weighs 16lbs...not much more than a full glass race bucket. It's actually really nice if you like to sit fairly upright (which I do). It's not as straight up and down as the full race buckets, but it has more lateral support than recliners. It's sort of a semi-race bucket. I love it.

I have a question for those that have installed aftermarket seats.

How difficult is it to retain the OEM seatbelt latch that is attached to the seat assembly? I will be using my 6 pt harness too, but I want to be able to use the stock belts when not racing.
