If you get the chance ask your dealer to see a stock flywheel. You'll see it's 2 plates with about 2mm of rotational give between them.

When the flywheel is unengaged and you put in the clutch it will make a metal vs metal sound as the plates take up that slack.

If you notice it can even happen as very low rpm with the clutch engaged as there is still movement in the flywheel under heavy torque conditions. I had the ***** with this for ages until a friend showed me how it's put togther.

Now i have a lightened flywheel which makes noise whenever it feels like it anyway. go figure!

Great insight. Thanks. Since you are in Australia, does your flywheel rotate in the opposite direction?

ALSO THEY ACK. THAT GEARBOXES ARE NOISY.
MINE IS NOISY IN NEUTRAL WHEN YOU LIFT CLUTCH AND RATTLES
IN FIRST AND SEC GEAR. ITS DIFFICULTTO HEAR BECAUSE OF ENG/EXHAUST NOISE. IT WOULD BE HELPFULL IF ANY ONE WITH SIMILAR PROBS COULD EMAIL ME AS I AM TAKING IT UP WITH NISSAN.

When I start my car (with the clutch pressed to the floor), I can feel and hear a clunking sensation coming from the clutch. It doesn't always happen though. Is this the same thing? My car has low miles...

Thanks.

Mine has about 1300 miles on it, and it has done the exact same thing since day one. It has a production date of 02/04. Every time I engage first gear it makes this "chattering" noise, and also when I take it out of 1st and into neutral for parking or such, it rattles a lot and makes a large clunking noise. The good news is that everyone else seems to have this problem and people are starting to rack up some miles on their Z's. Hopefully it won't be much of a concern.
