Default Best cams

What cams will give you the absolute most power? best for NA? how about FI? Also jwt vs. nismo r-tune cams, is there that much of a difference? I remember seeing a dyno where the nismos basically died off after 6k but the jwts didn't really drop.

i dont think there is an exact answer.
it really depends on what kind of mod u have.

best for NA is NISMO R-Tune...

for FI Turbo... JWT S1...

But you wont see much of a gain from the cam's until you do headers...

come by and take a ride in jeff's NA car with cams and headers

how much can I expect from the nismo if I already have injen cai, greddy evo2 exhaust, helix test pipes and probably dc sport headers in about a week? 15rwhp at least? Won't the JWT's give me more of a gain?

nismos have shown to give the least gains of all the aftermarket cams, but they offer more power down low than others and drive like a stock car. if you want the most power you may want to go with a more extreme cam like the nismo s1,s2 or one of the exotic japanese tuners cams.

yeah i had initially wanted to go with the spec 1 setup but according to performance nissan the spec1 or 2 won't work with US Z's due to timing. Is there anything I can do to make the spec 1 cams work? ecu reflash? something? I just want to throw on a few more NA mods then maybe go FI.

Anyone that can help us? Also, Z1 Performance's website has a whole arsenal of new nismo parts yet there is very little info about them. The vtc pulley is only 300 something but what exactly does it do? And once again is it compatible with US spec Z's?

I would probably go with the Tomei Cams just because they are a well recognized company when it comes to performance. My second choice would be the JWT because of knowing that they have real good skills on making Z parts. Don't know what the gains would be like on the Tomei until someone trys them. You could be the grinny pig and try them out for everyone on the forum?

I can speak for the JWT cams 20 rwhp & 20 rwtq (see Sig.) that was with the Borla TD and V.1 Crawford... I assume I will gain a little more with the greddy and the kinetix... With the tomei 268 you have to do a reflash to see good gains (but its a great cams)... I recomend the JWT, very solid performance!

Yes 20 & 20 with the cams added

You have to up the idle around 200 rpms (consult II) for the car dont stall... any dealer can do it... about the sound in idle, very nice

thats about what you should expect from cams. all the guys hitting the 280-290whp numbers have cams, everyone else is about 250-260. i would expect similar if not greater gains from the tomei, s1,s2, and other more aggressive cams. the nismo r-tune give about 15/15 on a modded car.

the jwt is only 262 degree rite?
i was only expecting 15~20 whp with some 268 or 272 cam...
a 262 can do 20whp is over my estimation already!

You have to consider the "Lift" of the cam... the JWT Cams have more lift than the Nismos and some Tomei's

the tomei 268 degree has 10.5mm lift.
and the jwt 260 degree has 10.9mm lift.
so ur saying the "lift" is more important then the"degree"?
thanks for ur time to explain

Everytime I read this all I can think about is that Spec 1. Lol. Someone muster up the courage and at least try it. Give us NA Z owners some hope. O well. I can dream.

I might be trying them soon enough...my heads are currently undergoing a buildup. Once we figure out exactly what we will be changing, we'll knwo the right cam (or do our own grind), and finalize header selection

Neither lift nor duration is more important.....it all works together.

There is no "best", there is, however, a best for your goals, and your current or planned mods. Head design, header design, ecu tuning all play a huge role in the results you'll get from any cam
