Default Thermostat

Has anyone found a thermostat that works other than nismo? I just think a thermostat shouldn't cost 120 bucks. Can you replace the thermostat inside the housing, any thoughts guys?

instead of shelling out the $120 get Water Wetter...reduces cylinder head temps.....reduces coolant temp by 20-30 degrees and provides rust and corrosion

The thermostat is a waste of money until you can turn the fans on early.

I am going to go with water wetter/15% glycol/water in my radiator. In the past I have been able to buy temp. controlled switches. you put a temp sensor inside the ribs of thr radiator which you attach to an adjustable switch which is connected to the fans. You just set it to the temp you want and there you go. It would woek great with a low temp thermostat.

Check it out Summit Part Number PRM-18905

This should work.

Kinda like a stand alone fan management system.

D*mn, just checked it out, I would have done it but the kit starts at 160, whereas the thermostat opens at 154.

Well, what temp does the stock fans come on at?

I don't beleive the fans kick on at the same temp as the thermostat, it usually higher, but I don't know.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind. 1. The fans only turn on when the car is parked or going very slow. 2. The thermostat only begins to open at 154 degrees, it must get a little hotter before it fully opens. 3. The fans shouldn't kick in until the the thermostat is fully open. (which is probably around 160 degrees, b/c you don't see to many thermos that are cooler than that)

You really don't want to run your car under 160 deg. farenheit. With this nismo/ fan switch combination and the proper water to antifreeze ratio you can probably run the car at 160 degrees, a whole 20 degrees cooler!
