Question High pitch whine from rearend?

Recently I've started noticing a high pitch whine coming from the drivetrain at around 38 to 45 mph . . . then again at 78-85mph. Anyone else having this problem?

I took it to my dealer and their master mechanic said it was normal and was coming from the rear differential I think.

This sound is kinda bothering me and is quite annoying while driving. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having this same thing with their car?

FYI: I have 23000 miles on my car.

It can't be "normal" if 99% of the cars don't have it!?!

I get gear whine but nothing from the rear....

Maybe it's a bad wheel bearing? Are your rims stock?

Get some Royal Purple or Shaeffer's gear oil. Should quiet it down some. (Shaeffer's has "climbing" gear oil which keeps the differential running with less noise and wear.) Of course if you are already worn from mileage, it will still whine. It will just do it less. Two quarts will do ya.

Here's a cool link I came across while researching what gear oil to put in the differential. I just switched to Shaeffer's.
