oil consumption + engine replaced... cause?
Who has had to get an engine replaced because of oil consumption?
HFM, 350ZMike Onefastdoc, jefsali
anyone else?
did they ever determine what the cause was?
everything was fine until jan when I took it into Nissan for
an oil change. They over filled it (pegged the oil pressure
guage) and a week later the oil light came on.
Since then I've been loosing about 1 quart / tank of gas
and now it's loosing about 2 quarts / tank of gas.
I tried switching to mobil 1 15W50 Synthetic but all that
seems to do is cost more $$$.
I've got an appointment with the Nissan dealer on Thursday 6/24
but my dealer is pretty clueless about the Z.

no smoke
no drips
not running rich / lean (I have the procharger and an AEM Wideband)
I've even disconnected the procharger belt thinking it was blowing oil thru the PCV system. Still loosing oil.
My vin is 1208, so I'm wondering if there's a systemic problem with early build z.
Had the tranny replaced last October, so it's possible there are other major issues.

Early model pre-order here as well.....mines eating ~2 qts between changes. I just had my valve cover gaskets replaced and we're hoping that stops the loss. I've been almost 1k since then, my plan is to check again at 1k miles since the repair.
I've also had a few tranny's...it's just about time for Nissan to take this car back

I noticed you have the procharger. I just noticed 1qt/1000 miles since I installed the stillen s/c. However, I never really monitored before that. I noticed just slightly less than the full 5 qts when draining at oil changes, but nothing significant before. I too have no drips/leaks/smoke or exhaust oily residue.
They are looking into it even with the procharger?

They know I have the procharger, and we talked about the oil before, when the oil light came on before; after they changed the oil. The car wasn't using any oil from the time I had the procharger installed in October till the oil change in Feb.
I'm sure I'm gonna have to fight with them, but right now I just want the problem fixed, warranty or not. I lent my mom the car while I was out of town for a week and the whole time I'm fretting about it running out of oil.
I'm hoping that they'll work with me if I can show some others that have had the same problem.

as for the pcv valve theory. with the procharger off, and it still drinking oil, I'd think I'd have a puddle of oil in the intercooler (the lowest part of the system). I don't see how it could draw up the oil from the intercooler, up the piping and into the intake.
