Lightbulb piston and rod installation

Hey i was wondering how hard it would to install these and would you have to remove the engine? couldnt you just drop the oil pan. and wouldnt it be easyer than installing a turbo kit?

Because I have been thinking about doing all these things my self and save alot of money.

youd have to pull the motor as you would need to rehone the block before you put them in so that it makes a fresh seal.

stop, no, and don't.

Find a quality shop locally that can fullfill your needs. Pay someone who knows what their doing.

Replacing pistons/rods in a motor requires the complete disassembly of the engine. Not to mention the power gains will be minimal.

The turbo kit would actually be an easier install. It is something that can be accomplished w/ simple hand tools and the ability to follow the instruction manual. If you choose to install a tubo kit yourself RTFM. Follow them to the tee. If you run into any questions call the mfg and get an anwser.

I really don't mean to be insulting, but if you don't even know that you have to pull the whole motor to do this, then you certainly should not attempt to do this. Turbo is an external bolt-on, albeit, a complex one. And....what do you want to gain by simply changing the pistons and rods? Do you want higher compression.....you will need to upgrade the fuel delivery as well, with some good dyno time added in too. Most people would change pistons/rods to a stronger lower compression set-up to faciltate a high boost turbo application, not in place of one.

You could drop the oil pan and change rods and pistons on a inline engine, I did it for a friend's Mirage. From you sn I'm guessing you have a Supra, you can probably do that (or did it) on your Supra. But the Z has a V6, it's much harder to do it with the engine in car, it'll be much easier to just pull the motor and replace it that way. You don't necessarily have to re-hone the cylinder, but you will need to re-crosshatch (sp?) the cylinder for the rings to seat properly.

I just wanted to know it if was a smart idea to do it my self I guess its not.

How much would it cost for a shop to pull an engine and intall pistons and rods?

about 2000 in labor and 1500-2000 in parts.

i dont work for a shop try z1 performance or sgp they have all the parts

heres a link to his site. notice the jdm stuff is uber expensive. but if you just get a good set of je stuff it will be much cheaper

Aside from the given Mirage and Supra examples, that was the "old-school muscle car" method for adding new pistons and rods. People would do a piston swap in their garage all the time. It might not be wise on the VQ35DE, but that does not make it a stupid or laughable question. Nice responce.
