Default Unorthodox Pulley Question

So, I have searched and read and still have questions. The pulley kit showedup and I am ready to take on the project.

What do I need to watch out for? Expect? Is the balancing issue a big deal on the 350z?

Someone drop some knowledge on me about doing this mod please. NA car with intake and full exhaust. Thanks guys!

My advice - don't get the whole kit - just the crank pulley; you can't see them anyways and the other two pulleys don't make any addt'l power, so why bother?

2nd piece of advice - don't try to install it yourself - at least on the G, it was a *****... bloody knuckles galore... ended up paying a guy $100 ($30 of which was for new belts - ones it shipped with didn't work) - it was worth every penny to save myself the trouble (well, not really, still had bloody knuckles)

The mod itself is definitely worth it, IMO, even though many people will come on here and preach about its shortcomings, they all have one thing in common - they don't have it on their car. If they did, they wouldn't be complaining, because the results are noticable... I think it was money well spent, so IMO go for it...

I had just the crank pulley on my car for a while and I couldn't really tell much of a difference. I ended up taking it off when I installed the supercharger. This is not really that hard of an install. The hardest part is getting a breaker bar long enough to break the bolt loose. I used my 1/2" drive ratchet with a 3' pipe on the handle ... HTH

This is an easy mod to install. Use a deep drive socket and use a breaker bar (I used an 18" length of pipe over my socket wrench). I also put the front tires on ramps so that I'd have some crawling around room underneath. Shouldn't take more than an hour or so.

vanwinkl, you were able to get your Z on ramps? I didn't have any luck with it.

I got it on ramps - they are the cheap black plastic ones from Pep Boys or WalMart. It was close but they made it w/o scaping.

I had the full kit installed on my Z.

I did the crank-only mod on my 2k2 Maxima...and after breaking the pulley tensioner and spending $90 to have a squeeky belt fixed...I decided just to shell out the $120 and have someone else do it this time on the Z.

It's not that bad if you do it yourself...helps if you have 2 people tho.

Love the mod.

Got the pulley kit in and am loving it, less enf\gine braking, quicker revs, no loss of ac power at all. Can't wait for the suggested 5-7 days for the ecu to recalibrate with less rotational mass and see the results...I haven't dynoed my car since it was stock, and I've done a full exhaust, intake and pulleys...we'll see...will post pics and a graph later...thanks bros!

ps, based on what you have heard me say I've done to the car, what would be the next step for a faster car, short of SC or TT?

What does "intake" and "full exhaust" include? Headers? High Flow Cats or Test Pipes? Dual Exhaust? CAI? Popcharger? Plenum? Have you considered changing out your flywheel?
