Default Need help modding the Z

I just picked up my Z this weekend. I want to get a CAI. Curious on which gives the most hp? For now I want to keep the car N/A. After Intake what else can I do? What is the fastest quarter mile time i can get with Engine work?

Thanks

Injen, IMO, has always made the best CAI.

Did you notice a nice gain in the higher RPM?

best on the road IMHO is the JWT Pop Charger...

best on the dyno INJEN

best driving CAI = NISMO / AEM when used with water diverter (NISMO comes with one standard..)

Don't buy anything until you spend some time reading the countless threads on this and other forums. They can be very informative. Some mods don't do anything except make your car louder. You can actually lose power with others. These cars are well tuned out of the box so any n/a gains will be relatively small. Spend wisely.

go with the JWT popcharger most bang for the buck (~100) and the sound is simply amazing

I noticed no change (albeit without a dyno) from stock to my Injen CAI.

If I were to do it solely off of gut, I would go with the Popcharger from what I've heard although I'd definitely like to see a dyno chart...

Intake is very well designed already. Nice straight tube and it pulls air from outside the engine compartment. Personally, I simply installed a Nismo S-tune filter and wrapped the entire intake tube with Heatshield thermal wrap. Like every other intake, it probably does nothing, but like every other person, I wanted to do SOMETHING, and this made the most sense out of all the options.

I just installed the JWT Pop Charger as my first Performance mod and I think its a good place to start. Its cheap, sounds great, and easy to install.

I have an Injen CAI. I couldn't really tell the difference. I made mine a short ram. Still no difference but it sounds much better. I have heard lots of good things about the JWT Pop Charger. If I were to do it over again I would go with that.

Popcharger is simply an SRI, using the stock tube..Replaces your stock airbox with a Cone filter, heatshield sometimes.

So from what ive read, the jwt pop charger is the best intake. Its better than a cold air intake? An ECU reflash? How much horse are we talking about.

Pop Charger is a very large intake filter that replaces your stock air box. It adds a velocity ring and heat shield as well...

Here is a good picture of the filter its self... It is MUCH larger than the filters found on the Cold Air Intakes...

The Pop-Charger is $120... Best intake bang for the buck if you ask me...

The car already has a "cold air" intake. And your now talking about an ECU re-flash? What does one have to do with the other? I *think* you are asking questions without really knowing what you want or what you are doing. If you are really new to modding cars, that's fine, just let us know what your goals are, and more importantly, how much you can spend, etc. That way, you can get some meaningful, real advice. If you don't have much $$$, and really HAVE TO do a mod, go ahead and do the intake, just don't expect any measureable performance gain. It will be a mod for the sake of a mod. That's okay, just accept it as such. With regards to your initial statement about "engine work" and 1/4 mile times.....that is a very broad question. Engine work can mean $400 for a new upper intake manifold to $15,000 for an AEBS based rebuild, with stand alone management.

Also, FYI......the pop filter has given a number of people stalling problems.
