I have a Roadster 5AT and want to find a higher stall torque converter...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

the only one on the market I know of is the edge racing converter, people seem to like it.

No Dyno before and after....dont think it would make a diff. any way . Might see a faster torque peak though....dont know . It did cut 6 tenths off my 1/8 time though . AN 1/8 mile is all had run up till I got the TC

I have heard some conflicting things about the Edge TQ converter, that is why I ask. I was told by Edge that I would see a fairly big gain in HP to the wheels with their TC since it is more efficient than the stock one, thus putting more of the crank HP to the wheels instead of it being eaten up by the tranny. I am just wanting some real proof from someone on the board. So, you said you lost 0.6 seconds in the 1/8 mile??? That is quite significant. Was this pre or post the SC? Are you having any overheating issues? I have seen a couple other FI cars with this TC start to run very hot because the tranny overheats.

I havent ran hot ....but I do notice the car is bad A$$ when cool and seems like it has no torque coverter at all when its hot and I have driven it for a while . I need a extra tranny cooler .I drive to the track [50 miles] By the time I get there the tranny fluid is hot and I dont get the torque . I went last Friday with drag radials and couldnt beat my time from 2 months earlier when it was 60 degrees and had street tires on it .Thought the track was to sticky...but now I think about it..it had to be the tranny fluid is to hot . I can spin the sh it out of them thru 3 gears when fluid is not hot

I am waiting for a Valve Body upgrade as well. That combined with a good TC will help soooo much with the slightly sluggish feel of this AT when you start making good power. The 5AT definately doesn't like a lot of added power whether N/A or FI. I hopefully won't need to cool the tranny with a separate cooler if I stay N/A, but you never know I guess. I am just waiting for some more TC options and some proof of one really doing what I am looking for out of it. I certainly do not want to waste a lot of time getting it installed only to have it not perform the way I would like it too.

If you stay NA the TC will work great . The reason Im having a little trouble with it is the innercooler is in front of the radiator and it doesnt get as much air flow

I spoke with Andre at EDGE about the situation ... here was his response:

"We do indeed sell transmission coolers and the recommended one comes with all mounting hardware, fittings and the instruction. It requires no cutting of the existing lines and is self regulating. The cost of the cooler is 38.90."
