... but please don't think for a minute you can take a Maxima motor, and drop it into a Z.

Same motor, different casting points on the block...

i have a maxima friend that had a 3.0 but wanted a 3.5 and he bought the vq engine. the engine is exactly the same excpt for the intake, manifolds, the oil pan is diffrent also but everything else is the same it even has the mounting spots for the 350z motor mounts. i took a look at it today to compare it. he wanted a 350z engine...

From what I know, the castings are different. He might find out when he drops it into his engine bay.

The Maxima is FWD and Z RWD so there will probably be differences because of that too..

I had a 2k2 Maxima right before I bought my Z.

Having been on the maxima boards for about 2 years, I have some basic info.

For one, the average stock dyno on a 2k2 6-spd was 210hp at the wheels.

I'm not sure how different the engines are, but there seems to be a big difference in stock HP. You couldn't get near the Z HP without some serious cash....even with Technosquare.

The differences is not just casting. One of the major differences between VQ35 in the Z, G35C and the VQ35 in other nissan vehicles is the exhaust valve. VQ35 in the Z/G35C has variable intake and exhaust valve, but VQ35 in Altima and rest only has variable intake.

In Japan, the officiall name of the engine in Z and G35C is VQ35DE NEO, and for other cars are just VQ35DE.

" VQ35 in the Z/G35C has variable intake and exhaust valve, but VQ35 in Altima and rest only has variable intake."

The Infinity G35C website says it only has variable intake timing.... There is no variable timing mentioned for exhaust.

That is correct. VQ35DE only has variable valve timing on the intake side.
