FI, only if I run into a bit of money. Trying to start off with the small stuff and make my way to the big.

A quality High Stall Torque Converter is the best bang 0-60, 1/4 mile mod you can get for an auto tranny that uses a torque converter without going FI. The TC with installation will run $800-$1000. After replacing the TC you can further improve, by upgrading the valve body for quicker more responsive shifting. The Nissan 5AT is a real-time learning adaptive transmission so it may also benefit from an ECU upgrade. You may also need to upgrade your tires depending on how likely you are going to break traction with the new TC. If you go with a High Stall TC just remember the higher you set it, the more twitchy the low end becomes and it won't be very good for street driving. For max performance you would want to set the stall a few 100 RPMS below the max engine torque.

Getting the fastest 0-60 and 1/4 is all about getting as much torque down to the ground in the fastest time possible without breaking traction. Torque converters are great at managing torque. They can multiply the existing torque or create more torque to the turbine (drive output) than the impeller (engine input) is delivering. In short you can create approximately 2 to 3 times more torque than the engine is producing. The only other single mods that I know of that can produce more or equivalent torque, and by not that much, would be an FI (expensive) or Nitrous Oxide system. Combine the High Stall TC with FI and you'll have a beast.

Here's a link on how basic torque multiplication works:

Thats a good post, thanks for the info. I have had this done before and soon will have it done to my stock 350Z Auto. I will run it at the track and see how much it will improve my 1/4 time. I am thinking with the tq converter and valve body, at least a good have a second or more should be taken off. Maybe after adding a CAI and exhaust with a ECU upgrade, maybe I could break into 12's with drag radials.
