Default Best mods for Auto...after...

I have the popcharger and will be getting a plenum. What is next after this. I guess I am just trying to get the best 0-60 times.

THanks

i bet he was looking for non FI applications. High flow cats, or resonated test pipes from kinetix would be very beneficial, as well as a nice exhaust system. There is also always the bottle. A nice 50-100 shot of spray will be nice if you are looking to take it to the track.

well now that the stillen valve body upgrade is on the market, i would say that would be high on the list.

stillen valve body upgrade?

And I always see the phrase "running lean". Getting these mods wouldn't cause anything like this, would they?

The best bang for the buck is the combination of plenum + high flow cats. The plenum by itself won't do much.

If you check out Kinetix Racing's website, you can get a combo package of their plenum and high flow cats for about $750.

I know there are two very disparate camps regarding Kinetix products. I have the v4 plenum and the new version of the cats. No plenum cracks and perfect fitment for both.

You know the cost to getting them installed? And how much hp/increase of speed can expect in the 0-60?

Thank for all the info guys, this is more than helpful.

The cost of the install is hard to say, for me. I did the plenum myself (1 hr job with basic tools), and the cats were installed by a local speed shop, but they also did my headers, Borla, and UR pulley at the same time. I've been under the car, and it doesn't look like too hard of a job to do the cats alone, yourself.

As far as the gains go, I won't be able to give you any specific numbers. I didn't do a baseline dyno, and the entire exhaust system was changed at the same time as the pulley. I'm having the car dyno'd the 28th of this month.

I can tell you that the car pulls much harder, since the exhaust and pulley install.

I would go with the stillen valve body upgrade and the torque converter. You will get the best results with these two items first then anything else (other then F/I). Should improve your 0-60 by alot. When done to my auto turbo civic, it took a second or more off my quarter mile time. I am telling you from a auto to a auto that this will be the best mod to start off with. Just like a manual guy starting off with a clutch and flywheel. You will be able to take manuals by alot after this upgrade.

The BEST performance upgrade would be a 6-speed Manual Tranny! Hehehehehe!!

Seriously though, I'd go with the Plenum+Cats and the valve body upgrade.

It all comes down to one question.... "How much money do you have?"

Well, close but not really The final drive from a 6 speed car would be nice and would really improve times and the ability of the car to accelerate. The TQ converter has no real proven info yet as nearly everyone with it thus far has FI, no before and after dynos. The valve body might be nice, but again is not proven yet. Test pipes/HF cats with a good y-pipe would be reasonable dollar wise and give you decent results. The Crawford headers will also give you great torque gains in the low/mid range which is really nice for the 5AT, but a bit more to buy/install. The install on the exhaust mods, excluding headers, is not that hard to do with the right equipment.

I also the Kinetix V4 plenum and I installed it myself in about an hour to an hour and a half. I have test pipes and I paid $175 for them and $60 for the install. The problem with test pipes is the raspy sound that you get around 3k-4k RPMs. I have the Injen SES straight tip true dual exhaust. The install only cost me $50.
Maybe this will help you.

Hey only1, are you planning on going boosted? If so, I would save your money. I plan on going w/ FI hopefully by next spring, just need to save a little bit more for everything!

A torque converter is going to help you big time. You are going to have to upgrade it soon. Its just like changing a clutch on a manual, the more hp, the better need for a better clutch. Also try replacing the clutch packs while you have everything apart. My car ran fast without turbo and with turbo. Only mod that will take a good chuck off 1/4 mile for price.
