Battery Help Please..
Guys, I'm working overseas (Again) so the Z is parked in the garage. My kind wife goes to starts it up for me every 4 days or so. She tells me the battery is dead. The lights are off. This happened the last time I was away. The last time I took the car back to the dealer and they changed the battery. The only things I have installed on the car electrically are HKS grounding Kit, and a XM sat radio with one wire connected straight to the Pos lead. I installed the grounding kit (after) the first battery. Does anyone know if the car's security system drain a lot of power, and can you take it off? Suggestions please.......db
Sorry to hear about your battery. I"ve heard that you should disconnect the battery if you don't expect to drive the car for 30 days, I don't think that just starting the car and letting the engine idle is enough to prevent discharge of the battery. You should disconnect the battery or invest in a battery charger if you're not able to drive the car for weeks on end. I've also seen this gadget that you hook up to the negative terminal of the battery and if you turn it a certain direction, the battery is disconnected.
Simple Fix, Tell your wife to go to Pep Boys or Auto Zone and buy a Battery Maintainer, about $60. It simply connects to your battery and you plug into a 110V outlet. Keeps your battery fully charged.
Once you get it started, have your wife fill the tank up, buy some Fuel Stabilizer, add that to the full tank, and she won't have to start it until you get back.
I do this everytime I leave. Last time the Z sat for 6 months, started up perfectly when I returned.
