Default Switching a Auto Tranny to a Manual

I have a 04 350z Automatic transmision. I would like to switch to a manual. Should A. Go to a nissan dealership and have a manual transmision put in. Or B. Get a new Z with a manual transmision. Cost is an issue.

it would probably be cheaper to trade in for a 6mt z.

like shinz said, i am guessing it would be cheaper and much easier to sell it and get a 6mt. i know they do swaps on mustangs but they are able to hit the salvage yards for parts.

not sure how much z trannys and 6mt ecu's go for. other misc parts and then throw in the labor charge of doing the swap.... imho, save yourself the headache.

You have no idea how huge a project this would be. Here are just some of the things you would need to buy:

Tranny
Clutch and flywheel
clutch pedal and hydrolics
Drive Shaft (possibly)
Rear end gears
M6 ECU
Center console

Just sell your car and buy and M6

Have you thought of doing the Stillen Valve body upgrade?
I am not to thrilled with the manumatic mode myself. I thought about getting a 6mt but I cant stand shifting in traffic.
Upgrading the Valve body and getting the L spec ECU flash might make you want to keep the 5at

Maybe you could find someone that has a manual and wants an auto. You won't have to buy new parts, just pay for the labor? I knew a few guys that had an A4(automatic) that wanted a T56(6 speed) LS1 camaro's and vice versa. The just both dropped there car off at a reputable local shop in monrovia(all he worked on was LS1's). Maybe you and someone else could take your cars to performance nissan or anothe reputable shop? I have a 6 speed G, and sometimes with I had an Auto...especially after driving a manual all frickin' day (UPS)...so I'm sure there is someone out there who isn't just on the fence like me.

good luck

not for nothing, but when it comes time to sell the car. Id walk away immediatly if I found out the person had swapped the tranny out. it would just worry me; I know its probably not as bad as someone that swapped internals of the engine, or gearing, or even flywheel and clutch upgrades.

but honestly Id be a little worried about the person that paid 3000$ plus labor(probably another 500-1000) to have it done.

if you sell yours and buy used equal to yours, youd probably lose less than 3500.
