Question about sponsorship
I was just wondering how to go about trying to get sponsored, and how it usually works or who does it. I never really thought about it but someone mentioned it to me and I figured I would look into it. I'd appreciate any imput. Thanks
knowing people is probably #1
having previous cars (like a resume) that have had any kind of media coverage. having a bodykit, wheels, and basic engine mods makes a good start.
have a proposal ... know what you plan to mod your with, who is going to do the work, what shows you plan to attend, what your plans for the car are, any future planned media coverage, etc. it pretty much comes down to how you market yourself and your car.

RJ de Vera wrote a really great series on this topic for Modified Magazine. From the manufacturer's point of view, he really hit the nail on the head IMO. I see about 8-10 sponsorship proposals per day. The more professional, well thought-out, and detailed the proposal is, the greater the chance it will find it's way to the top of my stack.
Also keep in mind that just because you are the manufacturer's target demographic doesn't mean that you are any different than any other person out there modding his/her car. You need to show the manufacturer that there is more value to what you will do with their product than simply 'I'll show it to all of my friends and they'll want to buy it too.'
