Default SNAGGED: RSR Exmag GT II...doh!

This story is so silly. I was downtown last week and was driving around looking for a parking spot. I picked a spot on the street and was about ready to turn my car off when somone walked up to the car and stuck their head in the window.

Oh my! It's a cop! He wrote me summons for my RSR Exhaust. SOOO STUPID! I appeared in community court today and now need have the car inspected by DMV and return to court in 30 days.

STUPID LAW! The problem is I love the exhaust so much! Just an FYI I guess.

What was the ticket for? Was it because the exhaust is so loud.

I didn't acutally get a ticket, I got a summons.

The summons was for "excessive noise". Yes, the silencers were out. The crappy thing is that the law for excessive noise in CT is completely objective. But in CA you are allowed 95 db or less from what I have read.

So in CT its all up to the officers interpretation.
It basically read, "no car shall have a muffler, exhaust, or canister system desgined to amplify the sound of the vehicle". Which means basically every single exhaust if you want to be technical.

I did find a noise emission law in CT, which says that all MV in CT need to be 80 db or less from 50 ft away. I performed their test in a parking lot and the RS*R read out at 105 db at the top of the RPM range....oops! Sounded sweet at always though.

So now I need to go to DMV and have them inspect the car, which means they are probably going to run the same test. I will be putting the silencers back in for that one. And decide what to do from there.

That's what I'm hopin'. Shine 'er up real nice!

I figure if I can pass the test with the silencers then I can play it by ear from there. And try not to get caught again.

You'll get a kick out of this:

Our close friend, a local cop, said that Harley's don't violate the noise ordinances since they come equipped that way (OEM), whereas, our aftermarket exhausts are options that we choose to install. What a d!ck, but then again, he's somewhat of the alpha cop

Bottom line: if they want you, they get you for whatever trumped up charge they want. Just try to appear intelligent and modest . . . then rip out the parking lot screaming

wow that sucks... hopefully your silencers will help you pass the test... if i were you, I'd go to court armed with your research (e.g. < 80 dbs) and have them argue their way into giving you a ticket... i've got my fingers crossed hoping that they'll just give up since you've done your homework

good luck

Do you happen to have your stock exhaust laying around? I wouldn't risk a chance of failing the test w/ silencers in. To be on the safe side, throw the stock exhaust back on for the test.

I do, it's in my basement.

That's an intersting idea, but kinda of concerns me a bit. Wouldn't that look kind of shaddy though when I show up to DMV with a summons for "excessive noise - canister exhaust x 2" and have the stock muffler on the car?

what a b!tch!!!!!!!!!!

i totally agree with teh215... frikken harleys are the loudest things on the street. the "loudness" should be absolute limit, not subjective limit.

What BS is the ticket i just sent to a lawyer. It was 2 weeks ago during Hurricane Frances...Saturday morning 1am, I'm doing a Dunkin Donut run because we have a little get together at my house. I'm going 30 in a 45 zone, almost no one on the street except for cops on every corner, (reason i was going 30) not raining, no wind, i had my windows down. Cop pulls me over and gives me a ticket for "Going too fast for condition" while theres people driving passing by us going at least 50! Like 350G said "they get you for whatever trumped up charge they want"

Zspeed: So when are you going in for inspection?

Dude i know your pain, CT is the biggest piece of $hit state ever, and i was born and raised there. Cops are complete dicks about everything, i just bought the greddy evo 2 for the same reason man, i had the rsr got like 4 warnings and sold it. And there are plenty of harleys that pass by me and sound like a fregin monster truck, ut no one ever says a damn thing to em cuz the cops are lil biatches and they are scared of em. O yeah, and dont let em BS u CT also has a decipal rating of 103 limit, i know this cuz i was summoed to court for my system being to loud and it read at 147db so they screwed me. F em thas what i say.

No, just pull in and play dumb. Say "here I am. Look at my car". They'll say that the exhaust is stock, you get home and put the RS*R's back on.

Get a beer and call it a day.

New Harleys don't come loud OEM. You have to put on aftermarket pipes (which a lot of dealers do to new bikes).

Rob, sorry to hear this. I know how much you really like the sound of the RSR.

I'm curious what happens when you go to the DMV. Keep us posted and good luck.

Motorcycles are immune from noise ordinances. I think they're allowed 110 dB in some areas in SoCal or something like that.
