Question Welding the Borla True Dual?

Hey all just got my Borla True Dual for my G35 6MT Coupe. I was told by two friends that they would get it welded because it was a bolt on and there were so many places to leak....

Has anyone here done that and/or have any leaking problems with just a bolt on install?

Thanks for any time spent to respond..

I've had it on for 10k mile , no significant leaks. Just TQ the clamps down as directed. I will weld the joints eventually just to be ****. The cross-over joint on the H-pipe is were most leaks would occur if they do.

I torqued my clamps down really good with an impact wrench, but after 15000 miles, I can see some small carbon deposits at each of the joints.

So then it sounds like I should have my buddy weld her up after we install it... thanks!

I had my Borla welded after I discovered a few leaks after about 500 miles of use. The leaks on mine were the "H" pipe and on both sides of the H pipe. I have a Z if that makes a difference. The welding fixed everything and it sounds amazing now.

BTW, I'm selling the exhaust for $400 pick-up or $400+shipping

Mine was leaking at several joints, I replaced all the clamps with wider ones at a muffler shop and had the "H" pipe welded. If you have the whole system welded it will have to be cut if it needs to come off.

Note even with the clamps , once they are TW'd down and the SS collapses around the pipe , 9 times out of 10 you'd need to cut the joints to remove the system anyway. So don't let that "issue" determine your path. Also a little carbon tracking from a clamped joint is not a big issue.

Borla is cheap, it uses clamps to connect each joint instead
of flanges.

Therefore, there are no gaskets.

This is why I prefer Japanese exhaust systems, they usually
come nice, thick flanges and steel gaskets, providing a solid
bolt-on and leak-free experience.

Wow. That's extremely disappointing. I wasn't about to go buy an exhaust system, but you'd expect a little more from a big name in the exhaust market.

I will intall with the clamps and use Permatex Muffler and TailPope Sealer and just keep checking it for the frist few weeks and retighten things as need be... If for what ever reason I don't like the install I will have my buddy weld her up...I can't wait to have her low growl under me..lol

Thanks all for the great advise!

Has anyone solve the problem of the leaky Borla exhaust? Mine has been on for over 18 months and is leaking at several points; the clamps will not tighten further I'm told. What the best way to get rid of the problem without having to weld all of the joints?

Thanks
